Job description

Capital Sand is looking to add a Dredge Operator in Wardsville,MO. 12 hour days, some Saturday's.
Responsibilities
  • Operate hydraulic suction dredge to extract sand and gravel from the river bottom. Perform all aspects of operation; continuously monitor gauges and controls, raise and lower suction ladder, adjust anchor winches for dredge positioning in the river, slack back barges as they are filled, etc.
  • Assist tow boat crew when switching barges out at the dredge.
  • Perform daily safety inspections to verify systems are safe to operate.
  • Perform daily maintenance inspections; report mechanical or maintenance issues, repair identified deficiencies; assist with scheduling repairs for deficiencies that require vendor assistance, lubricate equipment.
  • Provide directions to dredge deckhand for daily job duties.
  • Communicate with the dredging crew supervisor, towboat pilots, and crew members.
  • Fill out production reports, equipment safety inspections, equipment maintenance records, requisition for supplies, and employee timekeeping.
  • Ensure the dredge is operated safely and is properly secured and fleeted for continuously changing river conditions.
  • Perform dredging within authorized boundaries per regulatory permits.
  • Ensure that products meet applicable quality standards and specifications. Working closely with the QC department.
  • Maintain continuous awareness of surroundings, changing weather conditions, and changing river conditions.
  • Maintain equipment in good condition and appearance.
  • Operate a john boat to get to/from the dock to dredge.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.
  • 1+ years working on a dredge and/or related experience in mining, aggregate, quarries, dredging, sand & gravel, heavy mobile equipment or plant operations.
  • Knowledge of MSHA regulations. Familiarity with OSHA and U.S. Coast Guard regulations is a plus.
  • High motivation, leadership qualities, strong work ethic, and self-starter.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts. Rotating schedules as needed which may include weekends.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Heavy equipment operating and welding experience preferred.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Reliable Transportation
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Ability to do physical labor. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, to communicate to employees/management/visitors.
  • Ability to participate in required overnight travel as needed.
