Familiarity with mining equipment, safety management systems, and certifications such as Standard 11 or MSHA are commonly required. Strong teamwork, resilience, and effective communication skills help individuals adapt to remote environments and challenging rosters. Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) mining jobs are positions where employees travel by plane to remote mining sites for a set period of work, then return home for time off. These jobs typically involve rosters such as two weeks on, one week off, with accommodation and meals provided at the work site. FIFO roles can range from equipment operators and engineers to chefs and medical staff, and are common in regions where mining locations are far from residential areas. This arrangement allows companies to access a wider workforce while offering employees extended periods at home between shifts.
