What is a fly in fly out job?

Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) jobs are positions where employees travel to remote work sites, often in the mining, oil, or construction sectors, for set periods before returning home for time off. Workers are flown to the site and provided with accommodation, meals, and transportation as part of their employment package. FIFO roles can involve long shifts and extended time away from home, but they typically offer higher pay and scheduled breaks. This work arrangement helps employers staff projects in remote or hard-to-reach areas where local labor is scarce.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a fly in fly out worker?

To thrive as a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) worker, you need practical trade or technical skills relevant to your sector (such as mining, construction, or oil and gas), often backed by industry-recognized certifications or licenses. Familiarity with safety protocols, site-specific machinery, and digital reporting systems is typically required. Strong resilience, adaptability, and teamwork are vital soft skills for coping with remote locations and rostered work schedules. These skills and qualities help ensure safety, productivity, and well-being in demanding and isolated work environments.

What are common challenges faced by fly in fly out workers and how can they be managed?

FIFO workers often face challenges such as extended periods away from family, adjusting to shift work, and adapting to remote living conditions. Managing these challenges typically involves maintaining regular communication with loved ones, establishing healthy routines for sleep and exercise, and taking advantage of on-site support services. Many employers offer resources like counseling, social activities, and wellness programs to help FIFO employees maintain their well-being and build a sense of community while on-site.

Community Engagement Lead

Publicis Groupe Holdings B.V

Toronto, ON • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Company Description

Publicis is an omni-channel communications agency with over 600 employees across our Canadian operations. The office is the largest in our industry in Canada and boasts talent across various disciplines of marketing and advertising expertise. Publicis carries a balanced split of Canadian, U.S. and Global clients for which we are Agency of Record.  Publicis supports a range of D&I actions through our Driving Change team as well as giving back to the community through a long-standing participation in the Out of the Cold Program. With a strong, active and familial culture, Pub United is the agency's social club, hosting events as wide reaching as Curling, Trivia Nights and more.

Overview

"It's just social". We've all heard it. Felt it. And fundamentally, we've disagreed with it. Social has quickly

become one of the most complex yet rewarding spaces in all of marketing. And we don't think it's

slowing down anytime soon. As culture becomes dictated by social, and TikTok becomes the leading

entertainment platform, we're looking for people who can help put our clients in the spotlight, by

strategically positioning them at the heart of social conversation, helping grow interactions, and drive

community.

As the Community Engagement Lead, your responsibility is to help our clients show up in the right ways.

You'll own the editorial calendar of their content, help develop engagement strategies, identify

proactive & reactive engagement opportunities in real-time culture, and act as a steward of the

audience & brand community. You'll collaborate with strategists, creative teams, and in-house content

creators to inform new content briefs, driven by insight from past performance. If Taylor Swift were to

get engaged (hypothetically), you won't just know about it - you'll help determine if, how, and when our

client's brands show up. All in a matter of hours.

Within Community Engagement, you'll be exposed to growth opportunities across digital strategy,

content creation/creative, social writing, account services, and more.

Responsibilities

Lead editorial calendar for some of the top Canadian & U.S. brands

Conduct day-to-day community engagement to social interactions

Identify proactive social engagement opportunities, and help craft brand-relevant, provocative

responses, in partnership with client teams

"Own" the channels - know and leverage past content performance to inform what and how

content comes to life in future briefs

Support in the ideation of content briefs, with opportunity to lead them yourself

Assist in development of social media assets

When needed, support with sourcing of relevant industry and brand influencers to drive surprise

and delight, campaign activation, and general social engagement

Perform social listening to collect community insights and content opportunities (comfortability

handling data and experience with social listening tools an asset)

Gather, report and analyze social media metrics and results, and provide insights from the

industry and overall marketing campaigns in partnership with data & analytics teams

Communicate effectively with clients, internal teams and partners

Complete ad-hoc tasks and other duties, as assigned

Take feedback in stride - we win together & lose together!

Work occasional evenings, weekends, and/or holidays in support of client needs (lieu time to be

provided)

Qualifications

1-3 years' experience in a social media/digital marketing role

Experience working with key digital platforms, including Meta, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest,

Snapchat, Twitter, etc.

Strong writing background with an ability to communicate thoughts clearly and simply

Fluent in English, both written and spoken. French written and spoken an asset

Understanding of social analytics and what they mean. You should have an ability to convert

numbers into insights to make non-obvious content recommendations that resonate

Track record in a client-facing role, presenting to and collaborating with an ability to think on the

fly and pivot ideas in real-time

You are an ideal candidate if you:

Are curious by nature: you're interested how things work and why they work that way

Have the spiciest take in the room (we want people who think differently than we do)

Are creatively driven and think of data as a vehicle to unlocking new opportunities

Have strong written and presentation skills

Set high quality standards of work for yourself and aim to get every detail right

Relentlessly want to improve and grow

Have a bias for action

Undergraduate Degree (Marketing, Business, Public Relations/Communications, Psychology) or

other related degrees considered an asset
