This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC with little or no supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of principles of electricity (AC/DC), solid state circuitry, and safety rules and regulations pertaining to aerospace ground equipment and the operation of AC/DC generator power systems. Knowledge of the theory and operation of internal combustion diesel, gasoline engines and gas turbine compressors.
2. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures as well as regulations, procedures, and policies related to maintenance records, documentation, safety and security requirements as outlined inapplicable standards, regulations and policy statements.
3. Skill in reading, interpreting, and using complex wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, technical orders, technical publications, and similar guides.
4. Skill in using hand and power tools, instruments, test equipment, electrical meters and special tools. Skill in installing, operating, inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and modifying generators, automatic transfer switches, and uninterruptible power systems; and in maintaining, overhauling, repairing, and reconditioning internal combustion engines, diesel, gasoline and gas turbine compressors. Skill in troubleshooting complex and integrated electronic, hydraulic, HVAC, pneumatic, mechanical systems and sub-systems comprising an entire integrated system
5. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives sufficient to provide training toothers. Ability to repair jacks, ladders, platforms, trailers, stands and other non-powered equipment. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work.
6. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security as well as the knowledge of equipment placement around aircraft, radio discipline and flight-line driving procedures. Knowledge of equipment and cargo shipment.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:
1. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments.

6. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA).The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
May work inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature,and loud noise.Outside work may involve exposure to bad weather, rain or snow, or wet or icy conditions. Both insideand outside,frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors orsurfaces. May work onparts and systems which are dirty and greasy and which may be dangerous to operate or repairbecause of defects.Frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shockwhile repairing,positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment, and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns andskin irritationsfrom acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions,must follow numeroussafety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eye glasses, ear devices, hard hats,safety-toe footwear,respirators, gloves, safety harness, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortableto wear or use, andmay be worn or used for long periods.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required to do straight pulling, pushing, walking, standing crawling, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching above shoulders and climbing. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Heavy lifting (45-79 pounds).Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds). Light lifting (under 15 pounds). Moderate carrying (15-44 pounds).Light carrying(under 15 pounds). Lifting heavier items will require using jacks, hoists, or helpers.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
