Fly In Fly Out Laborer information

What is a fly in fly out laborer?

Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) laborers are workers who travel to remote job sites, typically in the mining, oil, gas, or construction industries, for a set period before returning home for rest. They usually work on a rotation schedule, such as two weeks on and one week off, with flights and accommodation arranged by the employer. This arrangement allows companies to staff projects in isolated locations where it may be difficult to find local labor. FIFO laborers often work long shifts but receive extended time off between rotations.

What are some typical challenges faced by fly in fly out laborers and how can they be managed?

FIFO Laborers often encounter challenges such as long shifts, extended periods away from home, and adjusting to remote camp environments. Managing these challenges involves building strong support networks both on-site and at home, utilizing available mental health and wellness resources, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance when off rotation. Many companies also offer programs to help employees stay connected with family and manage the unique demands of FIFO work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fly in fly out laborer and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fly In Fly Out Laborer, you need physical fitness, basic trade skills, and relevant safety certifications such as White Card or First Aid. Familiarity with tools, heavy machinery, and site management systems like mine site induction programs is essential. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and resilience to remote and challenging environments set standout candidates apart. These skills and qualities ensure both personal safety and effective contribution to demanding, often isolated, work sites.

What is the difference between Fly In Fly Out Laborer vs Construction Laborer?

Job description

Job Title- Principal Imaging Engineer

Project Location – Remote

Duration- Fulltime

Visa- USC/ GC

They have offices in Burlington MA and Manhattan NY.  The ideal person would be local enough to come to the office 1-2 times per week BUT they are open to other geographic locations where the person is remote but will fly in for a few days once per month or so (company expense).  Coming from an area like San Fran is okay, comp will have to be higher for people from those areas.

Yes, all US locations are fine.  If east coast that is great BUT do not limit the search.

The interview process will be three layers.  First will be 30 minutes with CTO then a deep technical dive with the technical team followed by meetings with the executive team.  These will be virtual except the last may be onsite.  This will be determined by timing/location/etc.

Job Description: Do you consider yourself one of the best ultrasound imaging engineers in the world?  Do you love the mathematics associated with beam forming the complex sound echoes returning from the body.  Do you like to create hardware and software that accelerate algorithms beyond what others believe possible?  Do you like to modify algorithms to achieve even more efficient results?  Do you enjoy collaborating with similarly talented and driven individuals?  Would you like to be part of the nimble, elite Ultrasound Imaging Team at the most progressive ultrasound producer in the medical device industry? If so, this role is for you.

The Imaging team are the experts that work at the intersection of all critical components of our business to make magic happen. We work with our customers to correlate their clinical needs with our technical specifications.  We innovate all of the ultrasound modes (b-mode, color imaging, 3D, PWD, biplane, needle-viz) that delight our customers.  We champion hardware and software architecture required to achieve our clinical performance objectives.  We are the integrators, optimizers, and champions of Image Quality for every clinical application.

Join this team and help us change healthcare around the world.

As part of our team, your core responsibilities will be:

  • Developing new or evolving existing ultrasound modes
  • Owning specific clinical applications (e.g. cardiology), and becoming expert in the clinical needs of that community
  • Working closely with our clinical team to optimize your application for image quality
  • Partnering with our HW, SW, Transducer and ASIC teams to advance next generation devices and to innovate advanced processing algorithms
  • Owning specific parts of our image processing pipeline (e.g. frequency compounding, scan conversion).  Implement these processes using Python, C++, or GPU coding
  • Performing a broad variety of tasks in support of the role and responsibilities.

 Qualifications

Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:

  • M.S. or PhD in EE, Physics, or related field
  • Industry or academic experience in diagnostic ultrasound or related field (7+ years)
  • Fundamental knowledge of basic ultrasound modes: B-mode, Doppler Color Flow Imaging, etc
  • Understanding of beamforming, diffraction, synthetic aperture fundamentals
  • Passionate and competent at working closely with hardware
  • Strong software skills, especially in C, C++, Cuda, OpenCL, Python
  • Strong modeling skills using both Python and Matlab
  • Advanced Mathematical, Signal and Image Processing skills

Ideally, you also have these skills/experiences/attributes (but it’s ok if you don’t!):

  • Project leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate the activities of colleagues
  • Basic knowledge of electrical analog and digital circuits
  • Ability to design and program FPGA’s using Verilog
  • Understanding of human physiology, especially as it relates to ultrasound
  • Familiarity with different GPU hardware and development environments: example Vulcan)
