Job description

Be a part of the initial team to grow and operate a regionally significant new underground mine development that is rapidly becoming the future of the iconic Red Lake gold mining district in Ontario, Canada.

Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, the successful candidate will work 14:14 roaster and will be responsible for providing long hole design packages with accompanying loading and blasting letters to support the safe development of the mine to achieve and surpass production targets while adding value to the Red Lake Madsen mine.


The Focus of this role will include:


  • Adhere to safe working practices and all site safety guidelines
  • Generate long hole design prints, loading packages and blasting packages timely for approval and issue to the operations team to guide production developments
  • Generate stope mucking and stope backfilling prints, ensures their timely approval and issue to the operations team to guide the safe and efficient mucking and backfilling of stopes
  • Design and ensure timely approval of barricade and berm mount locations underground to support the safe working of the operations team underground
  • Perform regular underground tours to inspect long hole drilling locations, visit drilling crews and visit loading crews to support and ensure compliance to plan in the execution of their tasks
  • Support the Senior Mine Planner in the generation of stope reconciliation analysis and presentations to facilitate continuous improvements of drilling and blasting designs
  • Support the development and presentation of weekly rolling forecast in compliance to approved 3 months rolling forecast to guide the realization of approved monthly physicals
  • Collaborate with Operations to ensure plans are executed according to design
  • Liaise with Geology, Ventilation, Geotechnical, and other departments to ensure long hole designs and blasting are practical and compliant with safety, environmental, and legislative requirements
  • Update daily long hole drilling tracker to inform stakeholders of drilling progress at all active stope drilling locations
  • Update imos software with approved weekly forecast to support mine supervisors to generate daily line ups for their crews
  • Keep clear records and documentation of all iMOS updates and changes made
  • Generate SOPs for long hole design generations taking into consideration the different long hole drilling equipment available on site for review by the Senior Mine Engineer
  • Performed other duties as required and assigned by the Chief Mine Engineer

Skills and Experience:

  • A B.Sc Mining Engineering, mine technician, mine technologist or equivalent industrial experience is essential, and a P.Eng. certification or ability to gain P.Eng. is an advantage
  • Experience in long hole designs and project management are desirable
  • Self-starter, strong collaboration skills and effective presentation skills
  • Ability to maintain strong communication network between engineering and other department heads
  • 2-4 years experience with conventional and mechanized underground mining methods and exposure to long hole stoping of narrow veins
  • Advanced competence in the use of Deswik UGDB for long hole designs, loading packages and blast letters is desirable
  • Strong knowledge of underground mining KPIs and data intergrity
  • Smart problem-solving techniques and 3D visualization skills are essential
