What are Fly In and Fly Out (FIFO) jobs?

Fly In and Fly Out (FIFO) jobs are roles where employees travel to remote work sites, such as mines or oil rigs, for a set period before flying back home for time off. This work arrangement is common in industries located far from populated areas, where daily commuting is impractical. FIFO allows companies to access skilled labor while enabling workers to maintain their home life in other locations. Typical schedules involve working for several weeks on-site followed by a similar period off.

What are some common challenges faced by Fly In and Fly Out (FIFO) workers, and how can they be managed?

FIFO workers often encounter challenges such as adjusting to extended periods away from home, maintaining work-life balance, and managing fatigue due to shift work. Many companies support their FIFO staff by providing mental health resources, comfortable accommodation, and structured rosters to allow for adequate rest. Building strong communication routines with family and staying engaged in onsite social activities can also help workers stay connected and maintain their well-being while on rotation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) worker, you generally need relevant trade or industry qualifications, strong physical fitness, and experience in remote or industrial environments. Familiarity with site-specific safety protocols, machinery, and compliance certifications such as White Card or mining inductions are typically required. Resilience, adaptability, and strong teamwork and communication skills are essential soft skills for managing the unique challenges of remote work. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining high performance, safety, and well-being in demanding and isolated FIFO environments.

Job description

What You'll Do As Our Account Manager
We don't just want someone to maintain accounts; we want someone to conquer them. You will have the freedom to manage your day and prioritize your own agenda.
High-Speed Execution: You'll be managing a fast-paced environment where priorities shift daily. If you're energized by pressure and bored by redundancy, you'll find your rhythm here.

  • Radical Autonomy: We don't believe in micro-management. You will have the authority to make decisions on the fly, tackle risky situations, and pivot your strategy as you see fit.
  • Innovative Problem Solving: We value your "out of the box" thinking. We want an Account Manager who brings unusual solutions to the table and isn't afraid to take a process in a completely new direction.
Who You Are:
  • Persuasive & Dynamic: You are a master of communication-coercive when necessary, always persuasive, and capable of selling a vision rather than just a product.
  • Strategically Detached: You lead with your head, not your heart. You stay focused on the objective reality of the deal, keeping emotional distractions at bay to maintain total clarity.
  • Results-Obsessed: You are a "big picture" thinker. While you understand the technical details, you know how to delegate the minutiae so you can stay focused on the next big win.
  • Socially Inclined but Assertive: You enjoy the "people" side of the business but remain opinionated and firm. You know how to collaborate to get what you need, but you won't let a group effort slow down your personal momentum.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive Growth: Proactively identify and conquer new business opportunities from Lynchburg to Raleigh.
  • Multi-Task at Pace: Handle multiple sensitive projects simultaneously, ensuring work is completed as it arrives.
  • Navigate Complexity: Use your analytical skills to solve technical problems for clients, then use your social skills to close the deal.
  • Own Your Agenda: Set your own schedule and priorities, resisting unnecessary structure in favor of hitting your targets.
  • Delegate the Details: Focus on the high-level strategy and visionary growth while ensuring the "low interest" administrative tasks are handled by support teams.
Requirements: What we look for in new team members-
  • Minimum 3 Years Commercial roofing experience
  • Strong work ethic
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Legally able to work in the United States
  • The selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
Qualifications:
  • Proven track record in B2B sales or business development, preferably in construction or a related industry.
  • A self-starter who is distracted by predictability and charged by chaos.
  • Exceptional persuasive communication skills with a "never say die" attitude.
  • Ability to travel from the Triad to the Coast autonomously.
Benefits & Compensation:
A qualified candidate will be offered competitive base pay, motivating commission structure, along with the benefits listed below-
  • Health Insurance
  • Free telemedicine for you and your entire family through Teladoc
  • Generous PTO plan
  • 9 paid holidays
  • 401k with generous company match
  • Optional voluntary insurances (dental, vision, short term disability, long term disability, term life, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity).
