Job description

Job Summary:
Allegion is a global leader in safety and security, specializing in access management solutions. They are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to collaborate with teams to define architecture and technical standards, provide hands-on leadership, and ensure integrated product deliveries in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with leads to define and communicate architecture and technical standards across multiple products and domains
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders to translate business problems into feasible technical solutions including identifying risks, dependencies, and trade-offs.
• Serve as the technical liaison between development teams and business/product management and are expected to discuss technical trade-offs, timelines, and impacts in business conversations.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership: design components, implement code, perform code reviews, and help unblock execution.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration with electrical, mechanical, systems, and test engineers where applicable to ensure integrated product deliveries.
• Promote engineering best practices around testing, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, observability, and secure design.
• Collaborate with security teams and follow Allegion product security guidelines to build secure-by-design systems. Proactively identify security risks, propose mitigations, and drive timely fixes for vulnerabilities and incidents.
• Lead threat modeling and security risk assessments as part of design and release activities
• Create, collaborate and maintain technical and design documentation (architecture diagrams, API specs, software design documents, interface control documents etc.) to ensure knowledge sharing, consistent implementations, and smoother handoffs across teams.
• Facilitate design reviews, maintain versioned design artifacts, and ensure documentation is kept current with implementations and release notes.
• Mentor and coach engineers on architecture, secure coding, design decisions, and coding techniques; raise the technical capability of the team.
• Help estimate effort, assess cost/benefit of changes, and contribute to proposals, planning and scheduling.
• Support production systems, releases, deployments, participate in incident response, and work with product support team to address issues in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 8+ years software engineering experience preferred, with a strong track record of designing systems and guiding teams across multiple domains.
• Proven experience acting as a solution architect or senior technical lead who can both set architecture and contribute hands-on to implementation.
• Comfortable working across the stack — backend, frontend, mobile, DevOps and QA. Able to learn new technologies quickly. We value the ability and desire to pick up new tools and apply them effectively.
• Strong communicator and collaborator who can translate technical trade-offs to business stakeholders and work effectively across cultures and time zones.
• Demonstrated experience with code review, mentoring, and raising the technical capability of teams.
• Agile mindset and experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
Preferred:
• Experience or strong interest in IoT / industrial IoT systems is a plus. Familiarity with AWS IoT Core and related device/cloud integration is especially desirable.
