How much do fluidics jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 19, 2026, the average yearly pay for fluidics in California is $81,504.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $58,700.00 and $96,700.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is fluidics?

Fluidics is the study and application of fluids (liquids and gases) moving through systems and devices. It involves understanding how fluids behave under various conditions and leveraging this knowledge to design equipment, such as pumps, valves, and flow sensors, often for use in fields like medical devices, laboratory automation, and industrial processes. Fluidics technology is essential for precise control and measurement of fluid flow, enabling innovations in microfluidics, biomedical engineering, and chemical processing. Professionals in fluidics work on developing, testing, and optimizing fluid-based systems for a wide range of applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fluidics engineer?

To thrive as a Fluidics Engineer, you need a solid background in fluid mechanics, engineering principles, and typically a degree in mechanical, chemical, or biomedical engineering. Familiarity with CAD software, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools, and relevant industry standards is often required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills in this field. These competencies ensure the design and optimization of reliable fluidic systems essential for industries like medical devices, automotive, and manufacturing.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in fluidics, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in fluidics often encounter challenges such as maintaining precise fluid control, managing contamination risks, and troubleshooting system malfunctions. Working with microfluidic devices or complex fluid systems requires meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of fluid dynamics. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams—such as engineers, biologists, and quality assurance specialists—can help address these issues by leveraging diverse expertise. Regular calibration, thorough testing, and clear communication within the team are key practices to ensure reliable and accurate results.

What is the difference between Fluidics vs Microfluidics Technician?

AspectFluidicsMicrofluidics Technician
Required CredentialsAssociate's or Bachelor's in Engineering, Physics, or related fieldsSimilar credentials, often with specialization in microfabrication or nanotechnology
Work EnvironmentLaboratories, research facilities, manufacturing settingsCleanrooms, microfabrication labs, research centers
Industry UsageBiotechnology, medical devices, fluid control systemsBiomedical research, lab-on-a-chip development, diagnostics
Common Search/ComparisonFluidicsMicrofluidics Technician

Fluidics and Microfluidics Technician roles share similar educational backgrounds and work environments, but microfluidics technicians focus specifically on tiny fluid systems used in advanced biomedical devices and research. Understanding these distinctions helps job seekers target the right career path within the fluid control industry.
