Job description

FLSmidth ABON is seeking skilled CNC Machinists to operate and maintain CNC machines to produce high-precision components used in heavy mining equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience with CNC programming, machine setup, and quality control to ensure the highest standards of manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC lathes, milling machines, and other machining equipment to manufacture components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to determine machining requirements.
  • Set up and adjust machines, including selecting appropriate tools, speeds, and feeds for optimal performance.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of CNC machines to ensure efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct quality inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and team members to optimize machining processes and improve production efficiency.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following safety procedures and regulations.
  • Document production activities, including machine settings, adjustments, and completed work.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Certificate III or IV in Engineering (Machining) or equivalent trade qualification.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience as a CNC Machinist in a manufacturing or heavy industry environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC programming (Mazatrol, G-code, Fanuc, Okuma preferred).
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality assurance.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in machining components for the mining or heavy equipment industry.
  • Mazak experience a big advantage
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software for programming CNC machines.
  • Forklift or overhead crane operation certification.
