Job description

Nature and Scope:
The Control Valve Specialist Engineer will focus heavily on control valve design as well as the design of key downstream components that work with the valve. Will be responsible for engineered to order valve designs operating in extreme conditions. This role will involve creating designs, drawings, BOM's and completing analyses, and will also oversee and support the assembly and testing of complex products during the production, testing and validation process. The Engineer will also have a good working relationship with the commercial operations team leaders to help support the quotation efforts on special high-energy and complex valve projects to make sure our products are sized and specified correctly.
Principal Accountabilities:
  • Technical owner for various complex valve applications and custom-engineered solutions.
  • Provide responsive technical support to both internal and external customers.
  • Capture and document engineering/R&D best practices and know-how to ensure that knowledge can be transferred effectively throughout the organization.
  • Lead and contribute to the design of products or services which include significant advancements in technology or innovative design concepts.
  • Collaborate with the product manager to identify technology gaps and research new or alternative technologies to meet market requirements.
  • Produce white papers and other collateral to advance Flowserve's technical standing in the marketplace.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and trainer to facilitate effective knowledge transfer in an area of expertise to technical staff to advance Flowserve's technical capabilities and sustain long-term competency.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Mechanical preferred.
  • Experience leading teams to success.
  • Ability to positively influence and develop other employees not directly reporting to this position.
  • Experience in product engineering & design with emphasis.
  • Experience with the design or application of control valves in severe service applications.
  • Experience with engineering 3D modeling and design tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks, Windchill, CATIA, etc.)
  • Practical expertise in advanced thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with research, simulation and testing in the field of fluid dynamics including instrumentation and data reduction and interpretation.
  • Strong knowledge transfer and mentoring skills in group and individual situations.
  • Experience applying Failure Mode and Effect Analysis and Project Management.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design of Blast Tubes, Impingement Blocks and Choke Tubes for High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) letdown applications.
  • Design of severe service control valve trim for high velocity and high noise applications.
  • Design of control valve trim for high-pressure letdown applications.
  • Selection and development of compatible materials for highly corrosive and erosive applications.
  • Work with supply chain and manufacturers directly to develop critical components for mining and other severe service applications.
  • Lead sustaining engineering projects to improve cost and efficiency of Flowserve control valve products.
  • Support New Product Development initiatives by creating designs, drawings, BOM's and analyses throughout the product development process.
  • Train and develop engineering talent with Flowserve's global engineering support teams.
  • Create and deliver presentations to track and report progress to the Global Engineering Leader, Engineering Director and other senior leadership.
  • Design and develop control valve solutions for special engineered-to-order control valve applications.
  • Provide timely and effective support for manufacturing and assembly personnel to resolve engineering issues that arise during the production process.
  • Actively participate and engage in Operational Excellence methodologies such as Daily Management and Problem Solving to support the efficacy of Flowserve's quality and on-time delivery objectives.
  • Provide technical support to other engineering support teams.
  • Participate and engage in design reviews for engineered products.
  • Meet with sales representatives and customers as required to gather direct feedback and information about the customer's process to aid in developing robust and effective solutions.
  • Expected Travel: 10%
