What does a floral technician do?

A Floral Technician is responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining floral arrangements for various occasions such as weddings, funerals, events, and everyday use. They select and prepare flowers, greenery, and other materials, ensuring each arrangement meets the customer's specifications and quality standards. Additionally, Floral Technicians often handle tasks such as ordering supplies, caring for plants, and providing customer service. Their work requires creativity, attention to detail, and knowledge of different flowers and their care requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a floral technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Floral Technician, you need a solid understanding of floriculture, flower arrangement techniques, and basic horticultural knowledge, usually supported by a high school diploma and relevant experience or coursework. During peak seasons like holidays and wedding months, Floral Technicians often encounter high order volumes, tight deadlines, and the need to balance multiple projects simultaneously. Managing these challenges effectively involves strong organizational skills, effective communication with team members, and the ability to prioritize tasks based on urgency and client needs. Many technicians find it helpful to prepare in advance by ordering supplies early, setting up efficient workstations, and collaborating closely with florists and delivery teams to ensure smooth operations.
