Flooring Associate information

What does a flooring associate do?

A Flooring Associate assists customers in selecting the right flooring materials, such as carpet, tile, hardwood, or laminate, for their needs. They provide product information, offer installation advice, and help with measurements and estimates. Flooring Associates also restock shelves, maintain clean displays, and may coordinate with installers or contractors to ensure customer satisfaction. Their role combines customer service, product knowledge, and sales skills in a retail or home improvement setting.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a flooring associate in a retail environment?

As a Flooring Associate, your daily tasks will include assisting customers in selecting flooring materials, providing product information, and answering installation-related questions. You'll also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the flooring department, managing inventory, and ensuring that product displays are well-stocked and appealing. Collaborating with other associates, such as sales and design teams, is common to help customers find the right solutions for their projects. Additionally, you may coordinate with installation teams and handle order processing to ensure a smooth customer experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flooring associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flooring Associate, you need knowledge of flooring materials, installation techniques, and strong customer service skills, often supported by prior retail or construction experience. Familiarity with inventory management systems, point-of-sale (POS) software, and measuring tools is typically required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities help you effectively assist customers and collaborate with team members. These skills are crucial for ensuring customer satisfaction, accurate product recommendations, and efficient store operations.

About This Role

Are you passionate about design, building relationships, and helping clients create beautiful homes? Anderson Carpet One, the area’s oldest and most respected flooring company, is looking for a Flooring Design Consultant to join our team.

This is more than a retail sales position. You’ll work one-on-one with homeowners, interior designers, and builders to help select the perfect flooring for some of the area’s finest homes. Our clients expect exceptional service, expert guidance, and a premium showroom experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Consult with homeowners to understand their style, lifestyle, and project goals.
  • Recommend premium carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, and custom area rugs.
  • Guide clients through the design and product selection process.
  • Prepare professional proposals and follow projects from initial consultation through installation.
  • Build lasting relationships that generate referrals and repeat business.
  • Coordinate with installers and project managers to ensure an exceptional customer experience.
  • Maintain a beautiful, organized showroom that reflects our high standards.

We’re Looking For

  • A professional, polished, and customer-focused personality.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A passion for interior design, home remodeling, or luxury home products.
  • Sales experience is preferred, but the ability to earn trust is even more important.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills.
  • Ability to work Saturdays as part of a rotating schedule.

Why Join Anderson Carpet One?

  • Represent the area’s oldest and most established flooring company.
  • Work in a beautiful showroom with premium products from the industry’s leading brands.
  • Serve high-end homeowners in one of the East Coast’s premier beach communities.
  • Competitive base salary plus commission with significant earning potential.
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and opportunities for professional development.
  • Supportive team environment where quality and customer satisfaction come first.

If you enjoy helping people make important design decisions and want to build a rewarding career with a company known for integrity, craftsmanship, and exceptional service, we’d love to meet you.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver an exceptional showroom experience for every client, creating a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
  • Consult with homeowners to understand their lifestyle, design preferences, project goals, and budget.
  • Guide customers through the selection of premium carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, and custom area rugs.
  • Measure, estimate, and prepare accurate proposals using company software.
  • Schedule and conduct in-home consultations when appropriate.
  • Coordinate with project managers, installers, and vendors to ensure a seamless customer experience from selection through installation.
  • Proactively communicate with clients throughout the project, providing updates and resolving questions promptly.
  • Follow up with prospective customers to build relationships and close sales opportunities.
  • Develop business through referrals, repeat customers, builders, designers, and local networking.
  • Maintain an organized, attractive showroom with current product displays and merchandising.
  • Stay current on flooring products, installation methods, design trends, and manufacturer offerings through ongoing training.
  • Meet individual sales and customer satisfaction goals while maintaining the company’s reputation for integrity and service.
  • Assist with special showroom events, promotions, and community marketing initiatives as needed.
  • Uphold the company’s standards of professionalism, honesty, and exceptional customer care in every interaction.

Serve as a trusted advisor - not just a salesperson - helping clients make confident decisions that add beauty and long-term value to their homes,

Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail sales, interior design, home improvement, flooring, kitchen and bath, furniture, real estate, or another customer-focused consultative sales environment preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor with the ability to build trust with discerning clientele.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through from initial consultation through project completion.
  • Comfortable using computers, point-of-sale systems, estimating software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn technical product knowledge related to carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, and area rugs.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift product samples weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally assist with showroom merchandising.
  • Availability to possibly work some Saturdays as part of a rotating schedule.
