Job Overview
The Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all kitchen and food preparation areas. This role ensures that all cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment are properly cleaned, stored, and readily available to support efficient kitchen operations. The Steward plays a critical support role to the culinary team by maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant working environment.
This position operates in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment with constant standing and frequent physical activity, including lifting, washing, and handling equipment. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, dependability, and the ability to consistently meet sanitation standards.
Job Responsibilities
Cleaning & Sanitation
  • Wash all pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment thoroughly and efficiently
  • Ensure all items are free of food residue, grease, and smoke stains before storage
  • Maintain cleanliness of floors, counters, trash receptacles, and workstations throughout the shift
  • Follow all sanitation procedures and health code requirements consistently

Kitchen Support
  • Assist cooks and kitchen staff with cleaning and organizational needs during service
  • Ensure timely availability of clean kitchen tools and equipment
  • Support overall kitchen workflow by maintaining a clean and orderly environment

Organization & Maintenance
  • Properly store cleaned items in designated areas in an organized manner
  • Maintain dishwashing and stewarding areas in a clean and efficient condition
  • Ensure chemicals and cleaning supplies are used and stored safely

Safety & Compliance
  • Handle cleaning chemicals and detergents safely and according to guidelines
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and sanitation standards

Job Requirements
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Prior experience as a kitchen steward, dishwasher, or in a food service setting is preferred; experience handling cleaning chemicals is required.

  • Occasional crawling, crouching, and kneeling
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of items up to 50 lbs.
  • Continuous use of eye-hand coordination for cleaning and handling equipment
