What is a floater assistant?

Floater Assistants are support staff who work across multiple departments or teams within an organization, filling in wherever administrative or operational help is needed. Unlike traditional assistants assigned to a single executive or team, floaters provide flexible coverage for tasks such as scheduling, filing, answering phones, and data entry. Floater Assistants often support multiple teams or departments by filling in for absent staff or assisting during busy periods. Their daily tasks can range from managing schedules, handling correspondence, and organizing files to assisting with specific projects or events. Because assignments may change frequently, adaptability and strong communication skills are essential. Floater Assistants quickly learn each team's workflow and priorities, making flexibility and a willingness to learn key assets for success in this role.

Retail Store Manager - Territory Floater(Lansing, DeWitt, Mason, Jackson)

Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan's Heartland is seeking an experienced, adaptable retail manager to provide leadership coverage at stores throughout our territory.

This is not a traditional Store Manager role assigned to one location. You will step into stores during vacancies, vacations, leaves, leadership transitions, and other business needs. We need someone who can quickly assess operations, build trust with the team, maintain standards, and keep the store moving forward.

What You'll Do
  • Provide temporary leadership and operational coverage at assigned retail stores.
  • Quickly evaluate staffing, customer service, production, merchandising, safety, and cash-control needs.
  • Coach employees, manage schedules, address performance concerns, and support day-to-day store operations.
  • Maintain Goodwill policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Communicate concerns, priorities, and completed work to Retail Leadership.
  • Assist with store transitions, openings, inventories, training, and special projects.
  • Work alongside the team when needed, including cashiering, processing, recovery, and customer service.
Schedule and Benefits

This is a full-time, salaried position with a flexible retail schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Our stores are open:

  • Monday-Saturday: 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
  • No late-night or early morning store hours

Benefits and perks include:

  • Three weeks of accrued vacation time in your first year.
  • The opportunity to use your leadership skills across multiple locations.
  • Meaningful work supporting our mission of Changing Lives Through the Power of Work.

Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan's Heartland is an equal opportunity employer.

What We're Looking For

This role requires a skilled manager who can step into a new location and lead effectively with limited transition time.

  • Minimum of five years of retail sales and operations experience.
  • Minimum of three years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, decision-making, and conflict-management skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and establish credibility with different teams.
  • Experience with scheduling, merchandising, cash controls, customer service, and employee performance management.
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the GICMH territory.

Experience managing multiple locations, providing interim coverage, opening stores, or leading through operational transitions is preferred.
