What is a flight remote?

Flight Remotes are professionals who monitor, manage, or support flight operations from remote locations, rather than being physically present at an airport or in an aircraft. They typically use advanced technology and communication tools to coordinate with pilots, air traffic controllers, and ground crews to ensure flight safety and efficiency. These roles are increasingly important as the aviation industry adopts more remote operation capabilities, including for unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and remote air traffic services. Flight Remotes may work in roles such as remote pilots, remote flight operations coordinators, or remote dispatchers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flight remote?

To thrive as a Flight Remote (typically referring to a Remote Pilot or Drone Operator), you need strong knowledge of aviation regulations, piloting skills, and often a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA. Familiarity with drone control systems, GPS navigation, and relevant software for flight planning and data analysis is necessary. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are key soft skills for ensuring safe and efficient operations. These skills are crucial for adhering to strict safety standards, managing complex equipment, and successfully completing missions in diverse environments.

What are the typical challenges faced by remote flight coordinators, and how can they effectively manage communication with on-site teams?

Remote flight coordinators often face challenges related to time zone differences, real-time communication, and maintaining situational awareness without being physically present at the airport or operations center. To manage these challenges effectively, coordinators rely on robust digital communication tools, clear protocols, and frequent check-ins with on-site teams. Building strong virtual relationships and setting expectations for responsiveness can help ensure smooth operations and quick resolution of any issues that arise during flight planning or execution.

Senior Information Security Architect (Contract, Remote)

Job description

Immediate need. Contract. Remote, US-based. Starting this week.

We are filling a seat on a platform build that is in its final stretch. This is not a role for someone who needs a long runway. It calls for an architect senior enough to step in mid-flight and own the security architecture from day one.

You will be the senior technical security voice on a small, experienced team — setting the architecture, making the calls, and standing behind them in front of the client.

What You'll Own
  • Security and cryptographic architecture for a credential and identity platform
  • Cloud infrastructure security — key management, secrets, network controls, and infrastructure as code
  • Security design review across the data pipeline and edge components
  • Penetration test scope, standards conformance, and launch-gate sign-off
What We Need to See
  • You have architected secure systems end to end — built them, not reviewed someone else's
  • You have implemented cryptography in production, not just read about it
  • You have been the senior technical voice in a client room and held that room
  • You are available now
Engagement Details
  • Contract engagement through launch, estimated 3–6 months
  • Small senior team; weekly full-team call, daily async communication
  • Fully remote, US-based
