How much do flight remote jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 2, 2026, the average hourly pay for flight remote in Atlanta, GA is $27.22, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $23.37 and $27.74 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the typical challenges faced by remote flight coordinators, and how can they effectively manage communication with on-site teams?

Remote flight coordinators often face challenges related to time zone differences, real-time communication, and maintaining situational awareness without being physically present at the airport or operations center. To manage these challenges effectively, coordinators rely on robust digital communication tools, clear protocols, and frequent check-ins with on-site teams. Building strong virtual relationships and setting expectations for responsiveness can help ensure smooth operations and quick resolution of any issues that arise during flight planning or execution.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flight Remote, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flight Remote (typically referring to a Remote Pilot or Drone Operator), you need strong knowledge of aviation regulations, piloting skills, and often a Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA. Familiarity with drone control systems, GPS navigation, and relevant software for flight planning and data analysis is necessary. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are key soft skills for ensuring safe and efficient operations. These skills are crucial for adhering to strict safety standards, managing complex equipment, and successfully completing missions in diverse environments.

What is the difference between Flight Remote vs Pilot?

AspectFlight RemotePilot
CredentialsCommercial pilot license, FAA certificationCommercial pilot license, FAA certification
Work EnvironmentRemote, office-based or administrative tasksIn-flight, cockpit, or aircraft operations
Industry UsageAirlines, travel companies, remote aviation supportAirlines, private charters, cargo carriers
Search IntentRemote aviation jobs, aviation support rolesPilot jobs, flying positions

Flight Remote and Pilot roles both require FAA-certified licenses, but Flight Remote typically involves administrative or support tasks performed remotely, whereas Pilot positions involve flying aircraft. The roles differ mainly in work environment and job functions, with Flight Remote focusing on remote aviation support and Pilot roles centered on in-flight operations.

What are Flight Remotes?

Flight Remotes are professionals who monitor, manage, or support flight operations from remote locations, rather than being physically present at an airport or in an aircraft. They typically use advanced technology and communication tools to coordinate with pilots, air traffic controllers, and ground crews to ensure flight safety and efficiency. These roles are increasingly important as the aviation industry adopts more remote operation capabilities, including for unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and remote air traffic services. Flight Remotes may work in roles such as remote pilots, remote flight operations coordinators, or remote dispatchers.

Full-time

Job description

The Problem

As Flock rapidly expands our Drone as First Responder programs, ensuring the hardware and software integrations for our aircraft perform with absolute reliability is critical to real-time operations. Building out cutting-edge airborne technology requires rigorous technical testing, field evaluation, and rapid iteration under real-world conditions. You will own hardware testing, pilot test flights, and validate new components so our DFR systems perform seamlessly when timing matters most.

What You'll Own
  • Lead technical flight testing and evaluation for DFR aircraft, hardware integrations, and system components.

  • Serve as Pilot in Command during outdoor flight operations, evaluating system behavior and performance across diverse conditions.

  • Write and modify custom test scripts using Python and terminal interfaces to extract data and analyze flight behavior.

  • Conduct root-cause troubleshooting on physical and software discrepancies encountered during bench testing and field missions.

  • Document flight data, generate technical test write-ups, and communicate actionable findings to engineering stakeholders.

What This Role is Not
  • This isn't a pure bench-research or lab-only role, you'll be outdoors testing hardware and flying aircraft over 70% of the time.

  • This is not a purely administrative piloting position, you'll actively debug custom software, write testing scripts, and integrate hardware.

  • This isn't a desk-bound remote job, you will be on-site in Atlanta with up to 25% domestic travel for field testing and operational missions.

What You Bring
  • Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate to operate UAS platforms legally and safely.

  • Hands-on experience integrating physical components and assessing hardware compatibility on aircraft systems.

  • Capability to interact with custom software via terminal interfaces and write or adapt Python scripts for test data collection.

  • Physical stamina to work outdoors in active field testing environments over 70% of the time and lift up to 55 lbs of equipment.

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional flight test and hardware experience.

  • Experience with experimental UAS flight testing or custom flight controllers is a plus.

Compensation

In this role, you'll receive a starting salary between $84,000 and $95,000 as well as Flock Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in depth with you during our first chat.

Flock is an equal opportunity employer, and we know the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills working together with mutual respect. Everyone is welcome to apply.
