Flight Test Operations Engineer Job Description

Mayman Aerospace created the worldโ€™s only successful turbine powered Jetpack. We are a venture-backed company with DoD contracts working to develop our Air Utility Vehicle. It will be the smallest & fastest, heavy-lift micro-turbine powered VTOL aircraft ever designed. We are currently developing our fifth full-scale flying variant called the P100.

Mayman Aerospace is looking for an experienced Flight Test Operations Engineer to join our existing engineering team designing, building, and flight testing our awesome autonomous aircrafts.

What You'll Do:
  • Join our engineering team to further develop the P100 operations and test campaigns.
  • Travel to test range and support the end-to-end test effort, including test plan development and execution.
  • Coordinate test campaigns among engineering, business development, test range staff, and customers to demonstrate program milestones and vehicle capabilities.
  • Conduct pre-flight briefings, post-flight de-briefs, and real-time flight-test monitoring, including anomaly detection and mitigation.
  • Streamline operating procedures to provide easy to use product capabilities to our customers.
  • Manage FAA airworthiness and testing certification for operations within the National Airspace System (NAS)
  • Develop field test equipment and vehicles for improved test efficiency.
  • Review flight test data and document test anomalies and findings.
Who You Are:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or higher in Engineering or similar technical degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and critical thinking.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills for technical documentation and code management.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively across a broad range of activities to support team goals โ€“ growth-stage startups require a wide range of skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks, and drive them to completion.
  • Adept at prioritizing tasks and executing multiple assignments concurrently in a rapidly changing environment.
Skills We Are Looking For
  • Experience with the PX4 autopilot ecosystem, MAVLink communication protocol, and QGroundControl ground station software.
  • Proven flight test engineering experience, including test planning, execution, and data analysis for aerospace systems.
  • Familiarity with the FAA certification process.
  • Deep understanding of aerodynamics.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • US citizen or resident status as this position will require access to export controlled data (security clearance is not required).
Skills We Would Love
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Hands-on experience flying Group 3 drone aircraft.
  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing flight test methods, fault-injection techniques, and specialized test equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with demonstrated troubleshooting expertise in root-cause-corrective-action (RCCA) analysis of flight-test anomalies.
