What is a flight analyst?

Flight Analysts are aviation professionals who analyze flight data, schedules, and market trends to optimize airline operations and profitability. They assess route performance, forecast demand, and recommend adjustments to flight schedules or pricing strategies. Flight Analysts work closely with other departments such as revenue management, network planning, and operations to ensure optimal use of airline resources and maximize revenue. Their work involves interpreting large amounts of data and making recommendations that impact an airline’s competitive position.

How does a flight analyst typically collaborate with other teams to optimize flight operations?

A Flight Analyst works closely with various departments such as operations, scheduling, revenue management, and maintenance to optimize flight performance and efficiency. Their daily work often involves analyzing flight data, identifying trends, and communicating actionable insights to improve schedules, reduce delays, and enhance profitability. Effective collaboration is key, as Flight Analysts must share their findings and recommendations in cross-functional meetings and ensure alignment on operational strategies. This teamwork not only supports smoother airline operations but also provides opportunities for professional growth through exposure to different aspects of the business.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flight analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flight Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, proficiency in data interpretation, and a background in aviation, mathematics, or related fields. Familiarity with airline reservation systems, data analysis tools like Excel or SQL, and possibly certifications in aviation analytics are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are vital soft skills for interpreting data and presenting actionable insights. These skills ensure accurate flight scheduling, profitability analysis, and operational efficiency within the airline industry.

Job description

Long Wall Company was created in 2024 to accelerate missile defense technology for the U.S. and our allies. Building on the RS1 and GS0 launch systems, Long Wall develops containerized, mass-producible missile defense systems and offers rapid, low-cost flight testing. We believe that the future of global security and stability require defensive technology that is lower cost, higher performing, better tested, and more broadly distributed than is possible today. Join us.

What we look for
Mission-Driven Problem Solvers. The aerospace frontier demands ingenuity. We want Team members who approach challenges with curiosity, embrace failure as a learning opportunity, and stay focused on delivering the best solution for the mission.

Total Ownership. We seek staff and engineers who take full responsibility for contributing to and delivering flight-ready work while recognizing that no one succeeds alone. The best engineers, corporate professionals, and technicians make their teammates better. Knowing that complementary skills create force multiplication and drive mission success.

Flight Analyst
DESCRIPTION

As a Flight Analyst I, you will perform a mix of trajectory analysis and performance assessments, supporting mission design, pre-flight prediction, range safety integration, and post-flight reconstruction. You will build and maintain simulation models, generate propulsion, aerodynamic, and atmospheric models, run Monte Carlo analyses, and translate results into actionable recommendations for GNC, Test Operations, and Vehicle Engineering. This role is intentionally broad: we seek a fundamentals-strong engineer eager to flex across disciplines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop nominal trajectories under aerodynamic, structural, and range constraints.
  • Build and maintain aerodynamic, propulsion, and mass models (including coefficient tables, interpolations, and uncertainty models) of various degrees of fidelity.
  • Build and maintain 3-DOF/6-DOF simulation tools and integrate aerodynamic, propulsion, and mass models into the tools.
  • Run Monte Carlo campaigns evaluating sensitivity to atmospheric variation and aero/trajectory uncertainties.
  • Generate range safety products, including hazard areas and contingency trajectories.
  • Produce analysis memos, performance margins, and risk summaries for pre-flight reviews.
  • Support post-flight reconstruction through telemetry data reduction and model validation.
  • Collaborate with GNC, Avionics, Mechanical Design, and Test Operations to ensure modeling consistency.
  • Maintain documentation, configuration management, and defense-industry data hygiene.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in any engineering discipline from an accredited university AND 2 years of experience
    • OR  Master's degree or PhD without experience
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
  • Internship or research experience in trajectory design, aerodynamics, GNC, or mission analysis.
  • Experience with aerodynamic coefficient tables, atmospheric disturbance modeling, or uncertainty quantification.
  • Experience integrating aerodynamic, propulsion, and mass models into 3-DOF/6-DOF simulations.
  • Familiarity with STK, GMAT, or similar mission analysis tools.
  • Exposure to telemetry analysis and post-flight reconstruction.
  • Experience using Git or equivalent version control systems.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
  • M.S. in engineering AND 2+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience leading major compliance initiatives in support of DoD, NSA, or other federal agency requirements
  • Direct experience working with regulatory bodies and government agencies to evaluate, approve, and sustain a security strategy
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or another regulated, high-security industry
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use a computer to complete assignments
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone, and telepresence
  • Ability to pick up to 12lbs
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will typically work in an office environment
$105,000 - $170,000 a year

The compensation range for this role is: $105,000 - $170,000/yr

  • Flight Analyst II (P2)- $105,000 to $140,000

  • Flight Analyst III (P3) - $125,000 to $170,000

This is the lowest-to-highest compensation range we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

In addition to base pay and equity, we offer:

  • Heavily employer-subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance plans
  • Long Wall paid life insurance and LTD coverage
  • 4% 401k match
  • Student loan repayment assistance program
  • Paid parental leave
  • Family planning assistance program
  • Long Wall paid financial wellness program
  • Paid time off for non-exempt employees and a flexible vacation policy for exempt employees
