What is Flexsim modeling simulation?

Flexsim modeling simulation is the use of FlexSim software to create digital representations of real-world processes, systems, or facilities for the purpose of analysis, optimization, and decision support. FlexSim is a powerful, 3D simulation tool commonly used in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and supply chain management. By building virtual models, users can test scenarios, visualize operations, identify bottlenecks, and improve efficiency without the risks or costs associated with physical experimentation. This helps organizations make informed decisions and optimize their processes before implementing changes in the real world.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flexsim modeling simulation specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a FlexSim Modeling Simulation Specialist, you need a strong background in industrial engineering, systems analysis, and simulation methodologies, often supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with FlexSim software, data analysis tools, and possibly programming languages like C++ or Python is typically required. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating with stakeholders and interpreting simulation results. These skills ensure accurate modeling, insightful analysis, and actionable recommendations to optimize complex systems.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in Flexsim modeling simulation roles?

Professionals in Flexsim modeling simulation often encounter challenges such as accurately representing complex real-world systems, managing large datasets, and ensuring model validation and verification. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams—such as engineers, operations managers, and IT specialists—is crucial to gather accurate input data and interpret simulation results effectively. Additionally, adapting to evolving project requirements and communicating technical insights to non-technical stakeholders are important aspects of the role. Overcoming these challenges requires strong analytical skills, effective communication, and continuous learning to stay updated with the latest simulation techniques.

What is the difference between Flexsim Modeling Simulation vs Manufacturing Engineer?

AspectFlexsim Modeling SimulationManufacturing Engineer
Required CredentialsDegree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; knowledge of simulation softwareBachelor's in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering; relevant certifications
Work EnvironmentSoftware development, process analysis, and simulation labsFactory floors, production lines, and plant management
Industry UsageManufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and supply chain sectorsManufacturing plants, assembly lines, and industrial facilities
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

Flexsim Modeling Simulation specialists focus on creating digital models to analyze and optimize manufacturing processes, often working in software environments. Manufacturing Engineers apply engineering principles directly on production lines to improve efficiency and quality. While both roles support manufacturing operations, Flexsim Modeling Simulation emphasizes simulation and process analysis, whereas Manufacturing Engineers focus on real-world process implementation and improvement.

Job description

About the Role

You are a trusted client advisor managing complex, high-value work with real autonomy. This role owns the full contract lifecycle, from RFIs and submittals through invoicing, and mentors the PMs coming up behind them.

You will own the following:

  • Complex Project Ownership: Successfully manage complex projects, task orders, or portfolios generally ranging from $25M-$100M, or multiple concurrent assignments of comparable complexity.
  • Contract Document Ownership: Manage all project contract documents from RFIs, submittals, and change management through invoicing; serve as primary point of contact for the owner PM when not assigned to a higher position.
  • Quality Assurance: Manage quality assurance by verifying deliverables against established standards and requirements.
  • BHS Delivery Oversight: Own baggage system delivery risk end to end - OEM coordination, long-lead equipment procurement and factory milestones, integrated testing, and cutover sequencing with airline and TSA stakeholders.
  • Procurement & Vendor Contracts: Oversee procurement and contract management, including project resourcing and vendor contracts.
  • Change Management: Monitor performance and run the change management process to document, justify, and control changes to scope, schedule, or budget.
  • Client Advisory & Mentorship: Serve as a trusted client advisor, lead multidisciplinary teams, and mentor Project Managers and junior staff.
  • Direct Reports: 1+ employees
  • Growth & BD: Achieve project financial targets and identify opportunities for additional scope, follow-on work, and client growth; work with consulting partners to pursue future opportunities.
Need to Have
  • Experience: 7-10+ years of construction project management experience, including demonstrated ownership of complex, high-value scope. Understanding of highly technical and mechanical baggage handling/ conveyor systems.
  • BHS scope: Direct delivery experience on baggage handling scope - checked baggage inspection systems (CBIS/CBRA), outbound and inbound conveyor, sortation, make-up devices, and EDS integration.
  • Risk management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks to protect timeline and budget.
  • Testing & commissioning: Experience planning and executing FAT, SAT, and integrated system testing with OEMs, and managing punch/acceptance through TSA and airline sign-off.
  • Client advisory: Track record serving as a trusted advisor to clients, not just an executor of scope.
  • Phasing in live operations: Managing installation and cutover inside an operating terminal - night and off-peak work windows, temporary bag flow, and coordination with airline and TSA operations.
  • Mentorship: Demonstrated experience developing junior PM talent.
  • Controls & interfaces: Working knowledge of PLC/SCADA controls, BHS/BIDS and airline system interfaces, and coordination with MEP, structural, IT, and low-voltage trades.
  • BD: Active BD expectation: client relationship growth, consulting partner engagement, and industry visibility.
Nice to Have
  • Certifications: PMP or CCM certification.
  • OEM familiarity: Prior work with major BHS suppliers - Vanderlande, Siemens Logistics, BEUMER, Daifuku, or Fives.
  • Aviation experience: Airport or airline-specific construction experience.
  • Throughput modeling: Exposure to BHS simulation and capacity analysis (Emulate3D, FlexSim, AutoMod) and reading throughput/redundancy requirements.
The Details
  • Location: Multiple US airport locations, onsite/hybrid depending on assignment.
  • Compensation: Competitive, based on experience.

Growth: Path to Program Manager for those pursuing broader BD and multi-project leadership
