Job description

Position Summary

The General Construction Laborer provides hands-on support for specialty foundation and general construction operations. This is a flexible field-support position rather than a role limited to one specialized trade. The employee may be assigned a wide range of physically demanding tasks based on project needs, including work in tight, restricted, or underground areas. The successful candidate must be willing and able to follow direction, work safely as part of a crew, and perform varied duties throughout the workday.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform general construction labor and support work as directed by the Foreman, Superintendent, or other field supervisor.

• Assist foundation, concrete, drilling, micropile, excavation, and related field crews with site preparation, production, and cleanup activities.

• Load, unload, move, stage, and organize tools, equipment, materials, supplies, and debris.

• Prepare and maintain work areas by clearing obstructions, removing waste, controlling dust and mud, and keeping the jobsite clean and orderly.

• Use hand tools and basic power tools safely and correctly after receiving required instruction or training.

• Assist with measuring, digging, trench preparation, concrete placement, material handling, equipment setup, and other construction support tasks as assigned.

• Enter and work in tight, restricted, or underground areas, including trenches, pits, vaults, shafts, and similar spaces, when properly trained, authorized, and equipped.

• Perform tasks that may require crawling, crouching, kneeling, climbing, balancing, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and working in awkward positions.

• Follow verbal and written instructions and adjust to changing assignments, priorities, crews, and jobsite conditions.

• Follow all company safety policies, jobsite rules, personal protective equipment requirements, and supervisor instructions.

• Identify and promptly report unsafe conditions, damaged tools or equipment, injuries, and other jobsite concerns.

• Assist with traffic control, spotter duties, material deliveries, equipment mobilization and demobilization, and other operational support when assigned.

• Work cooperatively with employees, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and other project personnel.

• Perform other construction, maintenance, cleanup, and support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous construction, industrial, excavation, concrete, drilling, foundation, or general labor experience preferred but not required.

• Willingness to perform varied general labor duties rather than work only within one specialized trade.

• Ability to understand and follow instructions, work as part of a crew, and complete assigned tasks safely and reliably.

• Ability to work in confined, restricted, and underground areas when required and after completing applicable training.

• Dependable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to work additional hours when project demands require.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Basic knowledge of construction-site practices, tools, equipment, and safety procedures, or the ability to learn them.

• Ability to recognize hazards, follow safety requirements, and use required personal protective equipment.

• Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers in active and noisy work environments.

• Ability to work productively under changing conditions and complete both skilled-support and routine labor tasks without limiting assignments to a particular trade.

• Ability to maintain awareness of surrounding workers, moving vehicles, heavy equipment, suspended loads, uneven terrain, and changing site conditions.

General Laborer | Revised July 2026

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily at active construction sites and may include outdoor work in heat, sun, rain, wind, humidity, dust, mud, noise, and other changing conditions. The employee may work around heavy equipment, moving vehicles, excavation areas, uneven surfaces, trenches, drilling operations, concrete operations, and restricted or underground work areas. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, reach, push, and pull.

• Regularly use hands and arms to handle tools, materials, equipment, and construction components.

• Lift, carry, position, and move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance or mechanical support used when appropriate.

• Work in tight or restricted spaces and maintain body control while entering, exiting, or working within underground or below-grade areas.

• Possess sufficient vision, hearing, coordination, strength, and mobility to perform assigned work safely around active construction operations.

Work Schedule & Travel

• Full-time, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM.

• Early starts, extended hours, nights, weekends, or overtime may be required based on project needs.

• Travel is primarily local during the business day; neighbor island, out-of-area, or overnight travel may be required depending on project assignments.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no regular supervisory responsibilities.
