Job description
Job #: 203528 Title: Standardized Patient Program - Part Time Location: Syracuse, NY Salary Range: 20.00+ Position: Medical Office Clerk Description:
About Standardized Patients (At SUNY Upstate Medical University)
A standardized/simulated patient (SP) is a trained individual who acts as a patient for healthcare provider training and assessment. SPs follow a script and are trained for specific medical cases, anticipating and answering student questions. SPs use checklists and forms to help faculty evaluate learner performance during simulated patient encounters. SPs are everyday laypeople from the community who are trained to provide scripted realistic medical histories and symptoms, offering feedback to students. This approach improves learners' skills and patient interactions. SPs are trained to act out medical scenarios realistically, like real patients, helping learners practice interviewing and examining patients. They provide constructive feedback from the patient's perspective, aiding learners' improvement in skills and bedside manner.
SCHEDULE:
Events occur between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM weekdays and can be half or full-day shifts.
To be considered a current SP, at least 2-3 shifts per quarter are required.

- Simulate individuals in both clinical and non-clinical scenarios for teaching and/or assessment activities
- Simulate all aspects of a scripted scenario in a standardized, accurate, and realistic manner

- Recalling and/or recreating the medical history, personality, emotional structure and response pattern of an actual patient
- Provide constructive feedback to learners guided by a template
- Complete detailed assessment tools accurately, consistently as trained by the simulation team

- Adapt to quick changes and work in a dynamic environment
- Maintain confidentiality with all students, cases, training materials, and assessment data
- Participate in sessions/activities that will be videoed and/or reviewed by faculty and simulation center team and observed live through an observation room and/or recording software
- Participate in training as needed
- Allow learners to practice physical health assessment techniques repeatedly and be comfortable with learners requesting gown/drape adjustments similar to a visit to the doctor's office
- Observe and remember learners' behavior for accurately evaluating their competencies
- Assist with the setup and return of simulation space to pre-event condition and salvage reusable supplies
- Operate video recording software as needed and simulation technology during simulation sessions
- Assist with recording software setup for events
- Assist with video recording of educational and instructional activities
Requirements:
