Job description

Position Overview

Unity Point Behavioral Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our team in Columbia, Maryland. This full-time remote position is ideal for professionals who are passionate about providing exceptional therapy to individuals and families experiencing mental health challenges. The counselor will utilize their clinical expertise to perform comprehensive psychosocial assessments, develop tailored care plans, and coordinate high-quality mental health care.

About the Organization

Unity Point Behavioral Services is a leading provider of mental health care in Columbia, Maryland. We are dedicated to enhancing the well-being of our community through innovative, evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Our multidisciplinary team collaborates with healthcare providers, community resources, and families to ensure that every patient receives the most effective support tailored to their unique needs. By prioritizing a holistic approach, we strive to foster resilience and emotional health across the populations we serve.

Work Environment

This role offers the flexibility of a remote work environment, allowing counselors to engage with clients from the comfort of their own homes while maintaining a strong connection to the outpatient office. Our digital platform is designed for efficiency and compliance, allowing providers to seamlessly manage caseloads, document client interactions, and facilitate communication with team members and external agencies. While working remotely, counselors will have the support of a structured team dynamic that values collaboration and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at Unity Point Behavioral Services, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Conducting thorough psycho-social assessments to identify patients' mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs.
  • Formulating and executing comprehensive treatment plans that are continuously evaluated and modified based on patient progress.
  • Diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health disorders, ensuring that interventions are evidence-based and tailored to each individual.
  • Providing referrals to supplementary services such as community resources, support groups, or other mental health professionals to enhance the overall treatment plan.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to develop discharge plans that secure ongoing care and support for patients transitioning out of intensive services.
  • Actively participating in team meetings and case reviews to share insights and adjust treatment strategies as necessary.
  • Remaining compliant with all federal, state, and clinical regulations and adhering to the standards set forth by the Mental Health Practice Act.
  • Engaging in crisis intervention and providing psychosocial support during challenging situations for both patients and their families.
  • Advocating for patients' needs to ensure clear communication across multidisciplinary teams and with external resources.
  • Identifying patients at risk for potential delays in care, ensuring proactive measures are implemented for effective discharge planning.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This role primarily serves adult clients experiencing a variety of mental health challenges, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma, and substance use issues. Our counselors foster a safe and inclusive space for clients to share their experiences, facilitating a therapeutic alliance aimed at fostering recovery and resilience. By addressing the complexities of mental health through individualized care, you will contribute to long-term well-being and improved quality of life for those you serve.

Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree in Social Work or a related field from an accredited institution is mandatory.
  • Current state licensure as an LCSW-C, LCMFT, LMFT, LCPC, or Psychologist is required.
  • Strong familiarity with community mental health resources and a network that allows for effective referrals.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to facilitate constructive engagement with clients and collaborators.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with clients, fostering a therapeutic environment conducive to healing.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working in outpatient mental health settings, particularly with diverse populations.
  • Previous use of telehealth platforms and digital documentation systems for managing client interactions is desirable.
  • Training or certification in evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, or trauma-informed care is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary ranging from USD 90,000 to 100,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to a robust salary, we provide a sign-on bonus of up to $1,000. Counselors will benefit from flexible scheduling, allowing them to choose hours that work best for their lifestyle. Our streamlined platform eliminates traditional private practice overhead costs, enabling you to focus on client care without the burden of administrative tasks. Moreover, additional income opportunities are available based on caseload management.
