Job description

Location: Ascension Seton Cedar Park
Shift Hours: PRN
R1 is the leading provider of technology-driven solutions that transform the patient experience and financial performance of hospitals, health systems, and medical groups. We are the one company that combines the deep expertise of a global workforce of revenue cycle professionals with the industry's most advanced technology platform, encompassing sophisticated analytics, AI, intelligent automation, and workflow orchestration.
As our Customer Service Representative (Patient Access Associate I), you'll work to help our patients check into the hospital, specifically the ER Department. It's fast-paced environment and you'll be the person they rely on to answer questions during registration. You'll build trust in these interactions by collecting information accurately and quickly, but also by listening with compassion - not just to hear information, but to address their fears, concerns, and questions.
To thrive in this job, you'll need to be a confident multitasker who is a fast learner with technology and can type and answer phones. You don't need any previous experience or knowledge in healthcare, but this is a plus. Since this is in a hospital/lab environment, you will need to be prepared to see illness and injuries. We'll teach you everything you need to know, which makes this a perfect starting point to launch your healthcare career. You must also be up to date on all vaccinations, pass a drug test, and pass a background check before starting.
Here's what you can expect working in Customer Service (Patient Access Associate I):
  • Offer exceptional customer service skills in the ER Department, with greeting and receiving patients and visitors, along with handling general inquiries.
  • Provide bedside registration needs within the ER, which will involve handling payments and answering basic financial questions.
  • This is a fast-paced area of the hospital. You will be on your feet and moving between areas, assisting patients throughout each shift.
  • Working on computers and answering phones to intake information in a busy environment. You'll work across multiple screens, collecting details that must be entered correctly for patient registration. You should feel comfortable working across multiple programs and typing as quickly as patients can talk. You will work around clinicians interrupting the registration process for urgent clinical care.
  • Helping people who may be very ill or worried. Patients need you to be there for them and listen carefully to ease their anxiety. You'll ask follow-up questions and build rapport in real time.
  • While collecting patient and insurance information may seem straightforward, there is a lot of variation in health plans and coverage. There will be knowledge gathered through training. You must work quickly and expect the unexpected. This is not a desk job.
  • Assist with supporting associates on new procedures and duties to be performed. This can involve working in other assigned areas of the hospital, too.
  • This can be the first step of your healthcare career at R1 RCM Inc.
Requirements:
  • Ability to work flexible shifts to include Mondays, Fridays, and weekends. Must be open to working holidays.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
For this US-based position, the base pay range is $15.50 - $23.21 per hour . Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
The healthcare system is always evolving - and it's up to us to use our shared expertise to find new solutions that can keep up. On our growing team you'll find the opportunity to constantly learn, collaborate across groups and explore new paths for your career.
Our associates are given the chance to contribute, think boldly and create meaningful work that makes a difference in the communities we serve around the world. We go beyond expectations in everything we do. Not only does that drive customer success and improve patient care, but that same enthusiasm is applied to giving back to the community and taking care of our team - including offering a competitive benefits package.
