Starting salary: 34,721 per year (with a 4,000 Personal Development Allowance after successful completion of 9 months' service)
Contract type: Permanent
Grade: Grade 3
Location: Longmore House, Edinburgh (with hybrid working)
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week 
Interviews: To be held in person at Longmore House, Edinburgh on Week Commencing 1st October

You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality GIS services while contributing to exciting digital transformation initiatives across Historic Environment Scotland.

Key Responsibilities of this role

The GIS Service Technician will support the operation and development of HES GIS services, applications, and spatial datasets. Key responsibilities include maintaining GIS web services and data pipelines, assisting with incidents and service requests, supporting system upgrades and licensing, and working with colleagues across GIS, Oracle, infrastructure, and web development teams to deliver reliable and effective GIS solutions for both internal and public-facing services.

Key Requirements of the role:

Essential:

  • Knowledge of working with GIS within a spatial database environment, including ETL processes.

  • Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and transformation.

  • Experience in managing GIS servers and data pipelines.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey technical information in a non-technical way.

  • Python scripting specifically Arcpcy and geoprocessing tools

  • Proven ability to continuously develop and enhance GIS applications

  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams and coordinating with various departments
