The P&CĀ Test EngineerĀ provides Protection & Controls (P&C) field testing and commissioning services across the Southern U.S., delivering safe, high-quality work for utility, co-op, and municipal customers. Supervisory Responsibilities:Ā

Duties/Responsibilities:Ā 

Field Testing and CommissioningĀ 

  • Perform field testing including relay protection testing, breaker testing, power transformer testing, instrument transformer testing, and control circuit verifications.Ā 
  • Execute end-to-end testing and ensure accuracy of relay logic and trip paths.Ā 

Project Planning & CloseoutĀ 

  • Review scopes of work (SOW) and drawings.Ā 
  • Develop detailed procedures andĀ checkoutĀ summaries.Ā 
  • Determine project schedules and commissioning plans.Ā 
  • Compile test results into professional reports and submit lessons learned.Ā 
  • Ensure equipment is returned or stored properly.Ā 

Collaboration & SupportĀ 

  • Assist other departments with subject matter expertise (SME) support.Ā 
  • Network with peers to identify opportunities for continual improvement.Ā 
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of safety and operational procedures.Ā 

Training and RecruitingĀ 

  • Complete and participate in annual training events.Ā 
  • Participate in company events.Ā 
  • Maintain technical personal progression.Ā

Attributes/Abilities:Ā 

  • Must have a satisfactory background/MVR check.Ā 
  • Must pass a pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and/or random drug test.Ā 
  • A positive attitude that inspires teamwork and productivity.Ā 
  • Strong procedure writing: develop detailed test plans, procedures and energization checklists, define isolation boundaries, and align with NETA/IEEE and utility standards.Ā 
  • Technical proficiency in reading wire schematics and basic electrical wiring techniques.Ā 
  • Proficient with Doble, Omicron and RTS software to execute equipment testing, end-to-end verification, validate relay logic, and prove trip paths from IED to breaker.Ā 
  • Safety-first operator: rigorously apply LOTO, verify live-dead-live states, utilize HPI kits, and maintain/refresh daily JHAs as site conditions evolve.Ā 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.Ā 

Experience and Education:Ā 

  • 1- 3 years' experience in the electrical testing industry with a focus on working with protection and control equipment,Ā RTU's, and telecom with HV utility, co-op, power generation, federal, or municipal clients.Ā 
  • High School diploma/G.E.D.,Ā AssociatesĀ degree or Trade/Technical school degree.Ā 
  • Experience with transmission and distribution relays include SEL, GE, ABB, and Westinghouse.Ā 
  • Experience with substation RTU's, communication processors, and telecom equipment for both brownfield and greenfield projects.Ā 
  • Experienced with scoping, scheduling, and budgeting process for protection and control, RTU, and telecom projects for both internal and external entities.Ā 
  • Experience with project management of protection and control teams working in HV substations for utility clients.Ā 
  • Familiar with NERC CIP requirements.Ā

  • Ability to work safely around electrical and mechanical hazards.Ā 
  • Potential exposure to various conditions, including dirt, heat, fumes, smoke, water, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and dust.Ā 
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional overtimeĀ asĀ needed.Ā 
  • Ability toĀ lift upĀ to 50 pounds.Ā Ā 
  • May require occasional travel.Ā
