About the Role
We're looking for aStaff Python Software Engineerwho thrives onsolving tough problems- not just building new features but understandingwhysystems behave the way they do and how to make them better. You'll dig into legacy code, untangle complexity, and modernize critical systems while keeping business continuity intact.

What You'll Do

  • Dive deep into existing Python and legacy systems - debug, refactor, and elevate code quality without breaking what works.
  • Design and implement scalable backend services and APIs.
  • Analyze performance bottlenecks and drive measurable improvements.
  • Collaborate across engineering, data, and product teams to modernize architecture and streamline deployments.
  • Lead and mentor engineers in problem-solving, debugging, and sustainable design patterns.
  • Shape system design decisions and drive modernization efforts with pragmatism and technical rigor.

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, ideally across multiple system generations.
  • Expert-level Python skills- you know your way around async, profiling, and clean architecture.
  • Experience with extending and embedding the CPython interpreter
  • Strong debugging instincts - you don't guess; you diagnose.
  • Experience with refactoring or migrating legacy systems (monolith to modular/microservices).
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, APIs, and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset - you build trust through clarity and delivery.

Nice to Have

  • C++ experience, especially with system-level integrations or bridging legacy components into Python.

Alteryx is committed to fair, equitable, and transparent compensation. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as your relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.

The base salaryrange for this role in the United States is $183,000 - $212,000.
