How much do flexible metal jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 7, 2026, the average hourly pay for flexible metal in the United States is $21.74, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.31 and $24.52 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are flexible metals and what are they used for?

Flexible metals are metals that have been engineered or processed to have the ability to bend, twist, or flex without breaking. They are commonly used in industries such as electronics, automotive, construction, and medical devices because their malleability allows them to be shaped into complex forms or used in dynamic applications. Examples of flexible metals include thin sheets of aluminum, copper, stainless steel, and specialty alloys designed for flexibility. These metals are essential for making products like flexible circuits, springs, tubing, and shielding materials.

What is the difference between Flexible Metal vs Flexible Metal Fabricator?

AspectFlexible MetalFlexible Metal Fabricator
CredentialsTypically no specific certifications requiredMay require certifications in welding or metalworking
Work EnvironmentManufacturing or industrial settings involving metal materialsWorkshops, factories, or construction sites fabricating flexible metal components
Industry UsageUsed as a material in various industriesInvolved in creating flexible metal products and assemblies
Job FocusMaterial itself or general industry termDesign, cutting, shaping, and assembling flexible metal parts

Flexible Metal refers to the material used in various applications, while Flexible Metal Fabricator is a specific role focused on manufacturing and assembling flexible metal components. The fabricator's job involves hands-on work, often requiring welding or metalworking skills, whereas Flexible Metal as a term describes the material's properties and uses.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flexible metal fabricator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flexible Metal Fabricator, you need a solid understanding of metalworking techniques, blueprint reading, and experience with fabrication machinery, often supported by a technical diploma or apprenticeship. Familiarity with CNC machines, welding equipment, and CAD software is typically required, and some positions may seek certifications such as AWS Certified Welder. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective teamwork are vital soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure precise, safe, and efficient production of metal components that meet quality and design specifications.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in flexible metal fabrication, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in flexible metal fabrication often encounter challenges such as adapting to rapid design changes, maintaining tight tolerances, and ensuring consistent quality across custom or short production runs. Addressing these issues typically requires close collaboration with engineering and quality control teams, ongoing training in the latest fabrication technologies, and strong attention to detail. Many teams also use advanced software and automation to streamline workflow and reduce errors, making adaptability and willingness to embrace new tools especially valuable in this role.
