Job description

Job Title: Software EngineerJob Description

This Software Engineer role focuses on the complete lifecycle of embedded software and Windows-based Mission Support Tools used in complex electronic warfare systems. You will work from requirements through deployment, designing, developing, testing, and debugging both embedded and desktop applications. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to mission-critical systems that protect armed forces, while working in a flexible environment with strong benefits and a supportive engineering culture.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and debug embedded system software for electronic warfare applications.
  • Design and implement software for embedded devices and systems from initial requirements through deployment.
  • Design and implement Microsoft Windows desktop software from requirements through deployment for Mission Support Tools.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, ensuring requirements are correctly interpreted and implemented.
  • Review software designs and code to maintain quality, reliability, and adherence to standards.
  • Estimate software development tasks, timelines, and resource requirements to support project planning.
  • Integrate embedded software into electronic warfare systems, including those deployed on C-130 aircraft.
  • Develop and maintain software requirement specifications and related technical documentation.
  • Apply OS coding techniques, IP protocols, interfaces, and hardware subsystem knowledge in daily development work.
  • Test your own code, perform debugging, and ensure proper documentation of test results and software behavior.
  • Collaborate effectively within a small to mid-size engineering team while also working independently on assigned tasks.
  • Participate in occasional travel (CONUS and OCONUS) to support system integration, testing, or deployment activities.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience in embedded systems design using preemptive, multi-tasking real-time operating systems (such as Green Hills RTOS).
  • Strong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded software development and system integration.
  • Hands-on experience with embedded software development on Green Hills RTOS.
  • Experience integrating embedded software into complex electronic warfare systems.
  • Knowledge of OS coding techniques, IP protocols, interfaces, and hardware subsystems.
  • Experience with embedded C programming for microcontrollers and firmware development.
  • Background in Linux-based software development for embedded or system-level applications.
  • Proficiency in general software development and software engineering practices, including debugging and testing.
  • Ability to develop software requirement specifications and maintain clear, accurate software documentation.
  • Knowledge of IBM Rational DOORS or similar requirements management tools.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts, particularly in C++ and C#.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for collaboration and documentation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% within and outside the continental United States (CONUS and OCONUS).
  • US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working on electronic warfare systems, including integration into platforms such as C-130 aircraft.
  • Background supporting missile warning systems, flare dispensing, radar, and other countermeasure technologies.
  • Familiarity with IBM Rational DOORS is considered a plus for managing requirements and traceability.
  • Comfort working both as part of a collaborative engineering team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail in testing, documenting, and reviewing code and system behavior.
  • Interest in contributing to mission-critical systems that protect armed forces and counter emerging threats.
  • Ability to estimate effort and resources accurately to support project planning and scheduling.
Work Environment

You will work in a small to mid-size engineering team focused on integrating electronic warfare systems into C-130 aircraft, supporting missile warning, flare dispensing, radar, and other countermeasures. The environment combines collaborative team-based development with significant independence in how you design, implement, test, and document your software. The role involves hands-on embedded development on real-time operating systems such as Green Hills RTOS, as well as Windows desktop application development for Mission Support Tools. The organization offers a flexible work schedule that typically includes a hybrid arrangement with two days per week working from home and three days in the office, along with a 9/80 schedule providing every other Friday off. You will use modern software engineering tools and requirements management systems, including IBM Rational DOORS, while benefiting from a strong benefits package and retirement plan in a mission-driven setting.
