DescriptionSummary:
The Department of Accounting and Finance at Alabama A&M University invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor position in the field of accounting starting January 1, 2025. Rank and tenure status are negotiable based on qualifications.
Examples of DutiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaches principles and advanced level courses in accounting at the undergraduate and graduate levels as needed.
- Produces scholarly research leading to publications in refereed journals.
- Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
- Maintains proper status consistent with institutional AACSB requirements.
- Prepares instructional materials (i.e.: exams, visual aids, course outlines, syllabi, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
- Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms through demonstrations, discussions, visual aids, lectures, field trips, individualized instruction, on-line instruction, and other appropriate instructional methods.
- Evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, verbal, practical, and performance tests.
- Maintains a student-oriented approach to education. Recommends students for advancement and graduation. Advise and mentor students.
- Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability and performance. Supervises extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Assists department chair, faculty, department staff, and advisers in building and maintaining an effective program.
- Serves on committees in the department, college and university levels and attends faculty and other meetings as assigned.
- Advises students and engage in professional activities.
- Assists in the development and implementation of the College's instructional and institutional goals.
- Displays excellence in teaching, intellectual contributions, effective advising, and service in the department, college and university levels.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical QualificationsMinimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
- A Ph.D. in Accounting from an AACSB accredited program/school/college.
- At least 3 years of college or university level teaching experience.
- Candidates with a Ph.D. in a related field should have completed at least 18 semester credit hours of graduate level accounting courses.
- Demonstration of scholarly contribution through refereed journal publications and other intellectual contributions.
- Demonstration of excellence in oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Candidates should have relevant professional experience in financial services industry/Accounting Profession. Preferences will be given to those candidates with professional licenses in accounting area. Specialty in Accounting Information Systems/ Accounting Analytics is preferred.
