We are looking for a Senior Lighting Designer!

ALULA Lighting Design is an award-winning specialty lighting design studio proudly integrated within The HIDI Group, an employee-owned multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with offices in Toronto, Ottawa, and Calgary.

Our unique structure offers the best of both worlds-the creativity and collaboration of a boutique lighting design studio, backed by the resources, stability, and multidisciplinary expertise of a national consulting firm. From commercial workplaces and mixed-use developments to hospitality, healthcare, and institutional projects, our team creates lighting solutions that enhance architecture and elevate the human experience.

We're looking for a talented Senior Lighting Designer who is passionate about design, enjoys collaborating with architects and engineers, and is ready to take ownership of projects from concept through construction.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and contribute to lighting design projects from concept through construction administration.
  • Develop creative lighting concepts, presentations, renderings, and client design packages.
  • Prepare lighting layouts, fixture specifications, schedules, and design documentation.
  • Perform lighting calculations and energy compliance analyses using AGi32 or Dialux.
  • Coordinate with architects, interior designers, electrical engineers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Participate in client meetings, design presentations, site visits, mock-ups, and fixture aiming.
  • Review shop drawings, respond to contractor inquiries, and support construction administration activities.
  • Stay current with emerging lighting technologies, products, and industry trends while maintaining relationships with manufacturers and industry partners.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Lighting Design or a related field, including Architecture, Interior Design, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Theatrical Lighting.
  • 4-7 years of professional lighting design experience.
  • Strong understanding of lighting principles, fixture selection, and lighting controls.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proficiency with AGi32 or Dialux.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Strong communication, organization, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with SketchUp, Rhino, or other 3D modelling software is considered an asset.
  • NCQLP Lighting Certification (LC), Certified Lighting Designer (CLD), or involvement with IES, IALD, or other professional organizations is considered an asset.

Why Join ALULA?

At ALULA, you'll work on meaningful, design-focused projects alongside a passionate and collaborative team. You'll have the opportunity to shape innovative lighting environments while benefiting from the mentorship, career development, and resources that come with being part of The HIDI Group.

We offer:

  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits
  • Group RRSP program
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Wellness initiatives and employee assistance programs
