Job description

Intermediate Interior Designer

STUDIO:

Ste Marie is an internationally engaged Vancouver-based creative strategy consultancy and interior design studio dedicated to realizing inspired and conceptually driven projects. We work with like-minded partners and clients to develop concepts and create spaces that are relevant, mindful and unique.

Ste Marie treats design like a tool which we use to tell the story of a project and to service the market.  Our process of research and discovery is disciplined and not overlooked as we believe that if the strategic thinking of a project is sound and we have good insight into the competition, foresee trends, and understand the guests desires, needs and habits accurately, we can create an offer that is aligned with what the market demands. Coupled with strong technical execution and precise and thorough coordination, we consistently achieve well-positioned and designed spaces.

ROLE:

Ste Marie is seeking to fill the role of an Intermediate Designer with an individual who is inspired and motivated to produce exceptional design for our clients in the Hospitality and Multi-Residential interior design sectors, and who understands that they will reach a level where they can execute this design through discipline, technical strengths, communication and motivation. As an Intermediate Designer, this individual will play a vital role in proactive collaboration with our studio and clients. This individual will have an innate talent for creating experiential and thoughtful design, will have a strong yearning to learn about their field through the process of inquiry and research, and the potential to translate that learning through to project execution.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Creative Director, Associate and Project Lead to create, develop, and execute design in line with project objectives and established design narrative. As directed, assume responsibility as Project Lead.
  • Tasks may include, but not be limited to conceptualizing and developing designs, 3D modelling, elevation renderings, mood board creation, specifications, CAD drawings, image research, materials and furniture sourcing, presentation assembly, and presentation delivery.
  • Create accurate & complete Specifications and Schedules.
  • Coordinate samples with internal teams, clients, and product reps.
  • Create and/or review accurate & complete construction drawing sets. Ensure drawing sets reflect established design intent and are technically sound.
  • Attend client and consultant coordination meetings.
  • Support the execution of contract administration, including the creation of Site Instructions and Submittal reviews.
  • Attend site visits, and prepare site reviews and/or deficiency reports.
  • Resolve issues that arise during construction.
  • Support FF+E specification and styling.
  • Leading by example, understand and follow strict internal procedures regarding drawing standards, document creation and issuance, and time tracking.
  • Assist and mentor junior designers.
  • Stay on task and effectively manage time in order to work independently on projects as assigned.
  • Openly communicate workload and support needs within the Studio setting.
  • Professional, client service-oriented and positive representation of the Studio, fostering and cultivating good client, vendor, and collaborator relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 4-8 years of professional experience in Interior Design, with experience in multi-residential and hospitality design.
  • Excellent written and spoken English language communication skills.
  • Completion of a certified Interior Design, Building Technology or Architectural program at a professionally recognized institution.
  • Fluent in AutoCAD.
  • Fluent in Sketchup.
  • Proficient in Enscape.
  • Pro in M365.
  • Experience in Fohlio is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of local building codes and bylaws and a strong understanding of building technology, building materials, specifications and construction techniques.
  • Strong understanding of interior design detailing, construction and millwork joinery practices.
  • Strong understanding of design stages and deliverables and level of detailing for each stage.
  • Strong understanding of FF&E process, including custom design and coordination with procurement team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Creatively and technically inclined, demonstrated through a strong creative and technical portfolio.
  • A quick learner with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team setting and to take direction from fellow team members.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the flexibility to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Interested in accelerating career growth.
  • Passionate about design and motivated to execute compelling and thoughtful projects.
  • A flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and commitment to independent, lifelong learning.
