Job Summary
Are you ready to take on a role that influences billions of dollars in transmission, generation, and infrastructure planning decisions by ensuring large-load growth forecasts accurately reflect contractual commitments, customer development pipelines, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends? This position serves as a critical link between Operating Company economic development teams, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), and grid planning.
This role is responsible for working directly with Operating Company economic development teams to collect and validate large-load growth forecasts and for tracking the performance of existing large-load customers against forecasted levels. The role will also manage internal and external large-load reporting. In addition, this position will have the opportunity to support other functions within the Economic Forecasting team, including AEP's total company load forecasting, forecast variance analysis, and economic impact analysis.
Job Description
What You'll Do:
  • Large Load Forecasting and Performance Tracking: Lead the Large Load and Data Center Forecasting process and reporting. This monthly process requires direct engagement with Operating Companies and the use of AEP's internal customer relationship management and billing systems for reporting.
  • Regulatory and RTO Support: Support Operating Companies through regulatory filings related to Large Load, such as Integrated Resource Plans, New Generation Filings, and Rate Cases. Lead and/or support RTO Large Load processes, including PJM's annual Load Addition Submission process. Monitor and advise on RTO activity as it relates to Large Load.
  • Business and Strategic Planning: Lead and own the development of Large Load assumptions for the annual load forecast that supports the larger AEP business planning process. The annual load forecast is used to develop revenue forecasts and support transmission and generation infrastructure planning decisions. Provide scenario planning guidance to Operating Companies and FP&A leadership to support business planning decisions.
  • Executive and Investor Communications: Lead reporting that advises and provides insights to internal AEP leaders within FP&A and Investor Relations to support investor discussions and quarterly earnings presentation materials. Prepare concise narratives regarding Large Load growth and AEP's future demand.
  • Data Analytics and Management: Maintain Economic Forecasting's Large Load data sets and related dashboards.
  • Other Economic Forecasting Functions: Participate and support other Economic Forecasting team functions. The AEP total company load forecast includes econometric and customer end-use modeling, electric vehicle and rooftop solar forecasting, and peak demand and hourly energy modeling. The Economic Forecasting team completes monthly variance analysis on the load forecast and communicates results to Operating Company business partners. The team also supports various economic impact analyses.

What We're Looking For:
Education:
  • Bachelors degree in mathematics, operations research, statistics, economics, data science, computer science or related technical field is required.

Experience:
  • 8 years of experience required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered. (Principal-level)
  • 10 years of experience required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered. (Staff-level)

Other Must Haves:
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Exposure to different programming languages, such as SAS, R, and Python and exposure to dashboarding tools such as PowerBI.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Ability to work positively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
