Flexible Data Annotation Analyst information

What is a flexible data annotation analyst?

A Flexible Data Annotation Analyst is a professional responsible for labeling, categorizing, and tagging data—such as text, images, audio, or video—to prepare it for use in machine learning and artificial intelligence projects. The 'flexible' aspect typically means the role allows for remote work, adjustable hours, or project-based assignments. Analysts use specific tools and follow detailed guidelines to ensure data quality and consistency. This role is crucial for training accurate AI models, as well-annotated data helps improve the performance of automated systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flexible data annotation analyst?

To thrive as a Flexible Data Annotation Analyst, you need keen attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a basic understanding of data labeling processes, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant experience. Familiarity with annotation tools such as Labelbox, Prodigy, or similar platforms, as well as basic proficiency in spreadsheet software, is typically required. Strong time management, adaptability, and clear communication skills help you deliver accurate results and work effectively with remote teams. These abilities ensure high-quality, consistent data labeling that is critical for training reliable machine learning models.

How does a flexible data annotation analyst typically collaborate with other teams to ensure data quality?

As a Flexible Data Annotation Analyst, you will frequently interact with data scientists, machine learning engineers, and project managers to clarify annotation guidelines and resolve ambiguities in the data. Collaboration often involves participating in virtual meetings, providing feedback on annotation tools, and reporting inconsistencies or uncertainties encountered during the labeling process. This teamwork ensures that annotated datasets meet project standards and contribute to high-quality machine learning outcomes. Regular communication and openness to feedback are key to success in this collaborative environment.

Can I work as a flexible data annotation analyst with no experience?

Flexible data annotation analyst roles often do not require prior experience, as training is typically provided to teach the necessary skills and tools. Basic computer literacy and attention to detail are usually sufficient to start, making it accessible for beginners interested in data labeling tasks.

Do data annotation jobs offer flexible hours?

Data annotation jobs often offer flexible hours, allowing workers to choose when they complete tasks, especially in freelance or remote roles. However, some positions may have deadlines or specific schedules depending on the employer or project requirements.

Does data annotation actually pay well?

Data annotation analysts typically earn hourly wages that are close to minimum wage or slightly above, depending on the platform and complexity of tasks. Pay rates can vary based on experience, skill level, and the employer, but generally, it is not considered a high-paying role. Many positions are freelance or part-time, which can impact overall earnings.

Is it hard to get hired for a flexible data annotation analyst?

Getting hired as a flexible data annotation analyst generally depends on having basic computer skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with annotation tools. Many positions are entry-level and may not require extensive experience, making the role accessible to a wide range of candidates. However, competition can vary based on the employer and location, and some roles may prefer candidates with prior experience or specific technical knowledge.

Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a practical, detail-oriented IT Data Analyst to strengthen how our business uses data across Microsoft Dynamics products and the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. This role blends hands-on analytics, report development, data quality improvement, and data security implementation. The right candidate can turn operational, inventory, and supply-chain data into clear business insight while helping ensure sensitive information is properly classified, governed, protected, and retained.

What You Will Do

• Extract, transform, validate, and analyze data from Microsoft Dynamics products, with Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management / Finance & Operations experience preferred.

• Build and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, and supporting data flows for Finance, Supply Chain, Inventory, Procurement, Warehouse, and other business teams.

• Partner with managers and subject-matter experts and others to define reporting needs and turn business questions into reliable data solutions.

• Design, document, and support data models that are scalable, accurate, and easy for business users to understand.

• Identify data quality gaps, investigate root causes, recommend improvements, and help maintain trusted data sources.

• Document reporting logic, data lineage, recurring processes, security configurations, and support procedures.

Data Security & Governance Responsibilities

• Support Microsoft 365 data security controls, including sensitivity labels, Data Loss Prevention policies, access reviews, retention settings, audit capabilities, eDiscovery support, and Microsoft Purview features.

• Help classify business data based on sensitivity, business value, retention needs, and access requirements.

• Assist with security architecture decisions for data storage, sharing, reporting, and collaboration across Microsoft 365, Dynamics, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and related platforms.

• Review access patterns and permission structures to help ensure data is available to the right people without overexposing sensitive information.

• Contribute to governance standards for reporting datasets, document libraries, secure collaboration spaces, and business-critical data sources.

Required Qualifications

• Professional experience as a Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Systems Analyst, or similar role working with ERP, operational, inventory, or supply-chain data.

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics products; Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management / Finance & Operations is strongly preferred.

• Strong Power BI skills, including data modeling, DAX, Power Query, report design, and performance-conscious dataset development.

• Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases or structured business data is preferred.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 security and compliance capabilities, including Microsoft Purview, sensitivity labels, DLP, information protection, audit, retention, and eDiscovery concepts.

• Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to data accuracy, confidentiality, and business usability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Microsoft certifications such as PL-300, MB-920, SC-400, SC-200, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Experience with Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, or similar cloud data platforms.

• Experience with Power Automate, Power Apps, Azure Logic Apps, or other workflow automation tools.

• Knowledge of finance, inventory, procurement, warehouse, manufacturing, or supply-chain processes in a production environment.

• Understanding of data privacy, records retention, information security best practices, and regulatory considerations such as GDPR where applicable.

What Success Looks Like

• Business users trust the reports because the data is accurate, well-defined, and consistently maintained.

• Leaders have better visibility into operational, inventory, and supply-chain performance.

• Sensitive data is easier to identify, protect, govern, and retain across Microsoft 365 and Dynamics-related environments.

• Reporting and data security processes are documented well enough to support continuity, auditability, and future growth.

What We Offer

• Competitive salary and benefits package.

• Opportunity to work with modern Microsoft cloud, analytics, ERP, and security technologies.

• A collaborative environment where IT, operations, finance, and business teams work closely together.

• Room for professional growth in data analytics, business intelligence, data governance, and security architecture.

• Flexible working arrangements, subject to business needs and company policy.
