Job Description:
The Engler research group is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct investigations on materials and design of dual ion batteries for a project funded by Planck Power LLC. The successful candidate will join an industry-funded project to prototype a novel battery chemistry for commercial applications. The main duties will include designing, fabricating, and characterizing dual ion batteries with ion-selective polymer electrolytes. They will collaborate with experts in polymer electrolyte design and processing, battery design and manufacturing, and simulated experiments to generate and publish high-impact findings. Additionally, postdoctoral researchers are expected to take leadership roles in laboratory, such as training and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students as well as developing new methods. As such, successful candidates will demonstrate strong initiative, leadership, creativity, communication skills, and a collaborative mindset. The candidate will work both independently and collaboratively on research projects, write reports and manuscripts, and present findings at science and engineering conferences. This position is initially for two years with the possibility of extension upon good performance and project success.
85% Conduct research on polymer electrolytes for dual ion batteries; work independently on research projects.
10% Write reports to project sponsor, manuscripts; give presentations in conferences. Partake in ongoing training and professional development.
5% Help supervise graduate and undergraduate students. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or related field
Experience in characterizing electrochemical energy devices with an emphasis on batteries.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in fabricating and characterizing batteries with polymer electrolytes.
