Job Summary: The Cart Attendant is an entry-level position responsible for exceptional execution of customer service in the store, parking lots, and entrance/exits of the stores. S/he is solely accountable for the overall aesthetic appearance of the parking lot. S/he must ensure that all customer carts are retrieved and stored properly in the cart corral or designated cart areas. Occasionally s/he will assist customers with the delivery and loading of their groceries into their vehicles. Based upon business needs, a cart attendant may be called upon to assist with actual store operation activities such as stocking shelves, assisting with customers, and cleaning. As a team member of Pete's Fresh Market it is important that Pete's Four Pillars of Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service are always exemplified.
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate the ability to retrieve and maintain all the carts on the company property.
  • Ensure the return of all carts to their designated storage areas.
  • Recognize and identify carts that have fallen out of the boundaries of the store and retrieve them, if necessary.
  • Greet customers with outstanding customer service and offer your assistance if needed.
  • Maintain a clean parking lot, side walk, entrance, and exit of the store, ensuring the area is clear for customers and employees.
  • Greet and assist customers to carry heavy objects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. with 0-3 years of experience in grocery store or similar retail environment.
  • Must have a valid and up to date Food Handler's Certificate.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service.
  • Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow-team members.
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands
  • Must have the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, climb, balance, stoop to grasp objects, kneel, crouch, crawl, frequently push/pull up to 100 lbs., frequently lift and/or move loads up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 75 lbs.
  • Ability to enter the coolers and freezers thereby being subjected to and withstanding frequent temperature changes for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional high stress when dealing with systems/customers/staff.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule with various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the store/business needs and as required to ensure adequate store staffing.
  • Must have reliable source of transportation.

Starting hourly rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and will vary based on things like location, experience, and qualifications. All positions are eligible for Overtime, and some positions will have guaranteed Overtime available.
Hourly rate for Suburban Stores is $15-$18
Hourly rate for City of Chicago Stores is $16.60-$18
