We're seeking an experienced Azure Infrastructure Engineer to support and enhance a modern Microsoft cloud environment, including Azure infrastructure and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). This role will be responsible for the administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of cloud-based systems that support a growing organization.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity offering the potential to transition into a permanent full-time position for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Azure-hosted Windows Server environments, including patching, performance optimization, configuration management, and availability.
  • Manage Azure infrastructure components, including virtual machines, networking, storage, backup solutions, security controls, and access management.
  • Support and maintain Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments, including host pools, session hosts, workspaces, application groups, user assignments, and profile management.
  • Monitor infrastructure and AVD performance, capacity, health, and end-user experience using Azure monitoring tools, dashboards, alerts, and logs.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, diagrams, standards, and operational runbooks.
  • Partner with IT, security, and support teams to resolve escalated technical issues and improve overall platform reliability.
  • Assist with cloud modernization initiatives, infrastructure improvements, and operational best practices.
  • Automate routine administrative tasks using PowerShell and other automation tools.
Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in Azure administration, cloud infrastructure engineering, systems administration, or a related infrastructure support role.
  • Strong hands-on experience supporting Windows Server environments, including patching, performance tuning, permissions management, troubleshooting, and backup administration.
  • Experience administering Microsoft Azure services, including compute, networking, storage, identity, security, monitoring, and backup solutions.
  • Experience supporting Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) or comparable virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, RBAC, MFA, Intune, Group Policy, and endpoint management technologies.
  • PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across cloud infrastructure, servers, networking, identity management, endpoint access, and user experience issues.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft Azure certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-140, AZ-500, AZ-700, or similar.
  • Experience with FSLogix, Azure Files, image management, autoscaling, and AVD performance optimization.
  • Experience with Nerdio or other Azure Virtual Desktop management platforms.
  • Experience supporting professional services, financial services, accounting, or other highly regulated and security-focused environments.
