Job description

TITLE: Security Resource Officer
DEPARTMENT: Support Operations
JOB TYPE: 11-Month Contract
REPORTS TO: Director of Support Operations
WORK SCHEDULE: Flex hours; 40 hours/week, typically 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday, with flex time option for selected evening events outside of office hours. Schedule follows the school calendar of early August through late May (with an additional 2 weeks of pre-school year prep and 2 weeks of post-school year wrap-up).
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The major responsibility is to create and maintain a safe and secure learning environment for Greenwood Christian Academy school community and grounds.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: The employee is a Christian with an authentic and mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ in both their professional and personal life with a calling and commitment to Christian education. EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field is preferred.
  • Ideal candidate will be a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and a current or retired sworn law enforcement officer.
  • Minimum five years' experience in law enforcement.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides a strong presence in the school community and enforces state statutes and city ordinances.
  • Coordinates a comprehensive security/school safety program and best practices in safety, security and emergency preparedness.
  • Serves as the point of contact that coordinates with the local authorities and leads the enforcement of lockdown procedures when criminal activity in the surrounding area poses a threat to campus safety.
  • Leads safety, security and emergency preparedness training and drills for security team, staff, and students.
  • Coordinates and provides yearly training for the SAFE Team (Staff Armed For Emergencies).
  • Serves as a liaison with local law enforcement agencies and investigates criminal activity on school campuses.
  • Provides oversight, badges, documentation, and recommendations for school volunteers and independent service providers.
  • Manages key inventory and distributes keys to staff and vendors.
  • Partners with Administration on recommendations for safety and security building requirements.
  • Plans and communicates safety and traffic control during the high traffic school times.
  • Manages state mandated drills and state reporting for both campuses.
  • Supports the school culture and builds strong relationships with staff, families, and surrounding community.
  • Attends annual training and Johnson County emergency school safety meetings to stay current on laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Attends parent, staff, student, and other organization meetings as requested by Administration.
  • Works with Administration to provide a necessary security presence at extracurricular activities and evening school events when desired by Administration.
  • Coordinates school safety officer training at each campus.
