Oakland FlexTech High School is seeking a Full Time Social Worker.

FlexTech High School was designed to be a new vision for educating the 21st Century teenager, one that puts wonder, creativity and initiative at the heart of the learning process and prepares students for today's unpredictable and rapidly-changing world. What started out as a challenge to design a school that would re-engage disenfranchised learners has grown into a mission to reinvent the education paradigm that simply is behind the times.
Oakland FlexTech High School is located in Farmington Hills, MI and serves the greater Metro-Detroit area. As a 9-12 high school, FlexTech offers flexible scheduling to accommodate learning outside the walls of the school through internships, college dual enrollment and various community projects. Students find themselves challenged and inspired by the progressive, competency-based and project-based learning model that is at the core of our instructional program.
Oakland FlexTech embraces the Small Schools Initiative, serving approximately 200 students who work closely with a teacher-advisor to monitor their progress and to tailor their school experience to meet their individual needs and interests.
Students come to Oakland FlexTech High School looking for a more relevant high school experience. They seek a small, personal environment where they feel supported and encouraged to pursue their interests. The school has an open campus that operates under a seat time waiver, so student schedules are markedly different from a typical high school and there is an emphasis on using technology to support our methodology.
Staff at Oakland FlexTech High School are part of a learning community participating in year-long professional development designed to support and develop teachers through a process of reflection and practice. Through a dynamic and supportive environment, all staff are encouraged to bring new ideas and participate in problem solving protocols. Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Social Worker to join our team. The School Social Worker will provide comprehensive social work services to students, families, and staff in a school setting. They will work collaboratively with school personnel to identify and address social, emotional, and behavioral issues that impact student success. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work, a deep understanding of child development, and a passion for supporting the social, emotional, and academic success of students.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
  • Provide direct services to students, such as counseling, crisis intervention, and group work
  • Conduct assessments and develop intervention plans for students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs
  • Collaborate with school personnel to develop and implement programs that promote a positive school climate and student success
  • Consult with teachers, parents, and community agencies to address student needs and concerns
  • Provide support and education to families on a variety of issues, including parenting skills, communication, and community resources
  • Monitor and maintain accurate and timely records of services provided and student progress
  • Participate in school-based teams and committees to address student needs and promote school-wide initiatives
  • Stay current on best practices and trends in school social work and related fields
  • Maintaining a safe and positive environment for all students
  • Maintaining effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
  • Regular and predictable attendance

Cognitive Demands:

Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program
  • Valid state licensure as a school social worker
  • Temporary or full approval as a social worker
  • Experience working with children and families in a school setting
  • Knowledge of social, emotional, and behavioral issues that impact student success
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel, families, and community agencies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
