Job description

We are seeking a safety professional that will focus on workplace safety management and leadership of specialty cheese production.  We have an amazing team of people that work together to produce some of the best Italian and Alpine cheeses in the world.  Safety is core and critical to our culture and essential to our success.  We are looking for someone that can manage our safety program and embrace a business partner role as they collaborate cross functionally across our cheese manufacturing plant.  

Responsibilities: 

Manage and coordinate the plant safety program (60-70%)

  • Responsible for fostering and maintaining a culture of safety throughout the LCD organization
  • Work throughout all levels of the organization to engage employees, supervisors and managers in safety topics, programs and procedures
  • Ensure sense of urgency and timely response to any safety related problems or issues
  • Complete post-accident/incident investigations and corrective action measures
  • Complete job hazard assessments, safety observations and internal safety audits with the goal of proactively minimizing or eliminating risks associated with job tasks
  • Lead the safety committee and drive efforts to ensure this committee’s topics and efforts are communicated broadly throughout the plant
  • Serve as an advisor for compliance with relevant OSHA or other safety regulations
  • Facilitate or coordinate safety training for employees on policies, regulations and procedures
  • Manage Alchemy training platform
    • Utilize system to assign, facilitate and track training
    • Build customized training for Lake Country Dairy specific needs
  • Collaborate with plant leadership to develop and implement policy or procedural changes that lead to a safer environment
  • Drive execution of safety related projects
  • Perform safety related internal audits and inspections
  • Able to flex schedule as need for trainings, projects or incident response purposes

Manage supervisory responsibilities for specialty cheese production.  (30-40%)

  • Lead the people and processes for Specialty Cheese production, ensuring PO’s are completed in the required timeframe.  (Note: this department has fluctuating volume and runs on an as needed basis)
  • Effectively utilize labor and other resources to maximize efficiency and productivity
  • Foster a culture of high performance through clear expectations and communication, goal setting, leadership presence and accountability to standards set
  • Perform managerial functions including but not limited to: employee scheduling, performance management, disciplinary action, performance reviews, responding to employee questions and concerns, work direction, ensuring safe work practices, accident/incident reporting, etc.
  • Responsible for documentation and record keeping of employee attendance occurrences, policy violations, performance related conversations, etc.
  • Complete department paperwork and data entry
  • Ensure all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP's) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are being followed and adhered to
  • Ensure sanitation duties are being completed to satisfaction and paperwork is being completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Follow all Quality programs and practices, involving QA with any product quality or food safety related issues
  • Understand equipment and maintenance related needs for your area and collaborate with maintenance to get items completed
  • Collaborate with the Innovation team on samples, trials and other requests related to specialty cheese R&D and innovation efforts
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) or related field
  • 5 years’ related experience within the manufacturing industry, food/dairy industry preferred
  • Able to successfully build working relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong collaboration and influence skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Strong follow up and follow through, with ability to plan, prioritize and multi-task
  • Creative thinker with thoughtful attention to appearance, display and presentation
  • Proficient in Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Able to effectively train and facilitate learning
  • Bi-Lingual (English / Spanish) preferred, but not required

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time salaried position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, standard business hours. Expectations of 45 hours per week.  Must be able to work evening and/or weekend hours on an on needed basis according to plant needs.

Physical Requirements:

Work will be done in both office and plant settings.  Must be able to stand, walk and climb stairs.  Plant temperatures vary between 30-100 degrees.

Compensation and Benefits:

The budgeted salary range for this position is $70,000-$95,000, with a 10% annual bonus potential.
