Objective
The EMC Test Engineer is responsible for testing automotive components to various Electromagnetic Compatibility and Electrical test methods per customer test plans and specifications including laboratory work instructions. Additional duties include the preparation of technical documentation and analysis of data. This position works closely with Senior EMC Test Engineers to ensure the validity of results and consistent application of processes. These functions are expected to be carried out with thoroughness and efficiency while maintaining sufficient quality.
Essential Responsibilities
Examples of specific responsibilities and tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Set-up and perform various Radiated Emissions, Radiated Immunity, Conducted Emissions, Conducted Immunity, and Electrical tests.
  • Verifies results from testing, calibration, and quality control activities conform.
  • Creates EMC test reports.
  • Assists Design Engineering team in the development of test plans.
  • Assists in the development and verification of test methods.
  • Assists in the development of laboratory procedures and work instructions.
  • Assists in the management, maintenance, and procurement of equipment.
  • Supports Design Engineering team with EMC development and testing activities.
  • Supports laboratory accreditation activities.
  • Supports test activities at external laboratories.
  • Assists in the development of personnel training plans and materials.
  • Perform other job related and support activity duties as required.

Experience 1+ Years
Education: Bachelor Degree Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline.
Certifications: iNARTE EMC Technician Certification or similar professional credential preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Good knowledge of basic test and measurement equipment including RF equipment.
  • Good understanding of OEM test specifications and industry standards.
  • Ability to comprehend technical information and drawings.
  • Ability to identify and solve basic problems.
  • Ability to apply mathematic formulas using logarithms and linear units.
  • Ability to verify equipment specifications meet applicable requirements.
  • Ability to manage assigned work in order to meet or exceed project deadlines.
  • Good understanding of personal computers in the workplace and associated software, such as Microsoft Windows/Office and applications used to control test systems.
  • Good organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and data files accurately and thoroughly.
  • Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and as part of a team.
  • Good technical writing and oral communication.

Physical Demand (Special Considerations): While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, kneel/squat, bend, and push/pull/lift up to 50 lbs. Occasionally, they must crawl, handle, and push/pull/lift over 50lbs.
