Job description

At Amazon, we're working to be the most customer-centric company on earth. We are seeking a Senior Category Manager to lead the commercial delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million-dollar Ops construction projects across one of our global regions.
The Construction Category team owns the end-to-end sourcing strategy for general contractors, developers, and key trade packages. This role will work alongside a team of Construction Category Managers and partner closely with Pre-Construction, Design & Construction, Real Estate, and World Wide Design to develop and execute category sourcing strategies, maximize managed spend, deliver measurable net cost savings, and drive competition into historically under-competed markets.
The team operates at the intersection of Amazon's Climate Pledge commitments and unprecedented construction demand - including responsibility for sustainable construction materials such as steel, low-carbon steel, and low-carbon concrete. You will collaborate cross-business with AWS to leverage Amazon's combined construction scale and avoid market fragmentation.
This is a high-growth, fast-moving team undergoing significant global expansion. The right candidate is a self-starter with dedication to seeing projects through to the end, able to work independently in a collaborative, creative, and ambiguous environment. You bring an eye for detail, determination to standardize processes, and the ability to deliver high-quality work. This position involves direct engagement with internal and external stakeholders at every level - from project teams to senior leadership - and requires the credibility to inform decision-making and earn trust across the business.
Key job responsibilities
Own end-to-end commercial delivery of multi-million-dollar GC construction projects - sourcing, competitive bid, award, contract execution, and handover.
Develop and execute sourcing strategies that drive competition, maximize managed spend, and deliver measurable net cost savings.
Partner cross-functionally with Real Estate, Design & Construction, and Engineering Services to align vendor capacity with program milestones - including Prime week and Peak readiness.
Run the full supplier lifecycle: performance management, should-cost analysis, concentration risk monitoring, and sustainability delivery aligned with Amazon's Climate Pledge.
Earn trust with senior stakeholders by providing data-driven market intelligence - GC capacity, regional pricing trends, and strategic opportunities - to inform roadmap decisions.
Define and own KPIs (cost, speed, quality, risk); track team progress against targets and drive continuous process improvement.
Travel up to 10% (site visits, supplier reviews, cross-regional collaboration).
A day in the life
You negotiate with GCs and subcontractors in the morning, build a should-cost model over lunch, and present a sourcing recommendation to leadership by end of day - no two days look the same.
You sit at the crossroads of Design & Construction, Real Estate, Engineering Services, and Finance - translating program needs into commercial outcomes that deliver sites on time, on budget, and aligned with Amazon's Climate Pledge.
You flex between strategy and execution: developing a regional vendor panel one week, resolving a contractor escalation the next.
You deep-dive data - market pricing, GC capacity, spend concentration - to surface opportunities others miss and bring them to life at Amazon scale.
About the team
The Construction Category team is building something new. We manage one of Amazon's largest and fastest-growing global spend categories across NA, EMEA, LATAM, MEATR, and APAC - driving competition, cost transparency, and sustainability into how Amazon builds. The team is growing, standing up regional vendor panels, deploying should-cost capabilities, and delivering on Amazon's Climate Pledge through sustainable materials sourcing including steel, low-carbon steel, and low-carbon concrete. If you want to shape procurement's role in how Amazon builds - not just support it - this is where to be.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of relevant strategic sourcing and category management in indirect categories such as professional services, support or maintenance spend, supply chain, forecasting, manufacturing, sourcing/procurement, or vendor management experience
- 7+ years of negotiations/cost savings, supplier excellence, and risk mitigation experience
- 5+ years of construction management or working with general contractors and managing supplier diversity initiatives experience
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA
- 2+ years of driving process improvements experience
