Job Summary

On-Site Fleet Service, a medium- and heavy-duty truck repair company with over 40 years of industry experience and four locations in New Jersey, is seeking an experienced Service Writer/Service Manager for our Rutherford, NJ location. This role is designed as a transition into a District Shop Manager position, working closely with and training under the current District Shop Manager while learning all aspects of the role and completing daily operational responsibilities.

We are seeking a qualified candidate with prior experience in a truck repair facility service role. This position requires strong business management skills, diesel repair knowledge, and the ability to effectively communicate with both customers and technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily shop operations, including management of staff and enforcement of safety standards
  • Achieve company operational goals and performance objectives
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and overall appearance of the shop, vehicles, and equipment
  • Collaborate with sales staff to ensure shop profitability
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by addressing concerns promptly and professionally
  • Prepare accurate repair estimates and invoices
  • Communicate job progress, updates, and delays to customers
  • Ensure all repairs are completed efficiently and meet manufacturer standards
  • Manage and supervise daily workflow and shop productivity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with multiple makes and models of medium- and heavy-duty trucks
  • Strong computer skills; experience with shop management software (Bay-Master preferred)
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in medium/heavy-duty commercial vehicle service
  • Strong knowledge of diesel truck components and repair processes
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and willingness to learn and attend training
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is a plus
