 Since 1949, Smith Ready Mix, Inc. has been a leading producer of ready-mix concrete across Northern Indiana. We are committed to delivering the highest standards of quality and service in the industry. We are currently seeking a dependable, safety-focused Fleet Manager to join our team at our Valparaiso, IN location.


 Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of fleet maintenance for a company with 12 locations. 

  • Monitor fleet availability and downtime and work with the shops to keep equipment in service.
  • Track PM compliance and make sure preventative maintenance is being completed on time across all locations.
  • Review maintenance costs by unit, including parts and labor, and identify equipment with excessive or recurring repair costs.
  • Make sure work orders are being completed accurately including repairs performed, parts, labor, mileage and hour readings.
  • Monitor repeat repairs and breakdowns and work with the shops to correct recurring issues.
  • Help evaluate major repairs and determine when equipment should be repaired, rebuilt or considered for replacement.
  • Track maintenance KPIs including fleet availability, downtime, PM compliance, maintenance costs and breakdowns.
  • Work closely with operations to prioritize repairs based on daily equipment needs.
  • Oversee planning, scheduling, and completion of all repair and preventative maintenance work.
  • Oversee parts ordering, inventory levels, and warranty claims.
  • Ensure that all safety policies and procedures are followed to prevent any unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  • Ensure that all D.O.T. regulations are met

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience in heavy truck maintenance and maintenance supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and be a problem solver.
  • Efficient time-management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
  • Computer skills including but not limited to, Microsoft Office and maintenance and diagnostic software programs.
  • Must have the ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of personality types.
  • Ability to work safely in a busy construction environment.
  • Willingness to work the hours necessary to keep the fleet operational.
  • A neat, professional appearance and a good driving record are required.
