Security Officer
The Security Officer is an integral part of the AGIF-NVOP organization and will be working primarily with the homeless veteran population. Our Security Officers allow us to accomplish our organization's mission, which is "to serve the needs of veterans, their families, and other needy individuals of the community". They are responsible for the 24-hour safety and security of the residential center. The Security Officer is a deterrent to criminal activity around and within the property of the facility by remaining visible and presenting a neat and professional appearance in properly worn uniform.
Job duties and responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the facility security protocols are in place and always adhered to.
- Working with residents in an empathetic and understanding manner.
- Learning and implementing verbal crisis intervention/de-escalation techniques.
- Conducting monthly fire and emergency drills and documenting drills as required.
- Maintaining proficiency in the use of all assigned equipment (2-way radio, flashlight, keys, etc.).
- Maintaining order and acting to enforce regulations and directives of the Ryan Center pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises.
- Greeting guests and employees in a professional and welcoming manner and answering phones using professional etiquette.
- Answering questions and assisting residents and employees.
- Patrolling the facility on foot every hour.
- Monitoring closed circuit television systems for unusual activity and any alarms.
- Reporting safety concerns, security breaches and unusual circumstances both verbally and in writing no later than 60 minutes after the occurrence.
- Handling security issues or emergency situations in accordance with training, policies and procedures, and standards.
- Adhering to security/safety training programs.
- Attending all meetings and training courses as notified.
- Participating in industry specific security/safety training programs to remain current and proficient.
- Maintaining any applicable state, county and municipal licensing and permit requirements for Non-Commissioned Security Officers as required by this position.
- Being vigilant to any conditions that require awareness of personal safety and safety of others.
- Maintaining awareness and understanding with the site-specific operations performance manual.
- Documenting all site checks within and around the perimeter and effectively communicating with the front desk when they are conducted.
- Administering random urinalysis and breathalyzers of residents and documenting results in the designated logs.
- Conducting initial searches of possessions of all new residents and conducting ongoing searches of all bags, backpacks and other carry-ons on residents reentering the facility.
- Maintaining a professional appearance and complying with uniform requirements.
- Confidentiality of client information, donors, team members and the AGIF-NVOP. Such information is to be disclosed on a need-to-know basis only.
- Being sensitive to the needs of program participants and treating clients with respect and professional care.
Job requirements include:
- A high school diploma or GED, with at least 2 years of security experience.
- Level 2 non-commissioned Security License, active in Texas.
- No criminal record.
- Ability to use computer to annotate shift updates.
- Prior military experience is preferred.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- A current Texas driver's license at all times.
- Passing drug testing and background check.
- All personnel of the organization must be bondable.
