Job description

THE POSITION As a PennDOT CDL Operator for the Department of Transportation, you will step into a role that helps keep the state moving. This job gives you hands-on experience with essential highway equipment while supporting safe travel for everyone. Your work will make a real impact on the quality and reliability of Pennsylvania roads.

As a PennDOT CDL Operator, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Operation: Operate trucks, loaders, and other machinery needed for highway and bridge tasks License Compliance: Maintain required CDL credentials and complete daily pre and post inspection checks Traffic Control: Provide flagger duties to control traffic flow when equipment is not in use Manual Labor: Use a variety of hand tools and motorized tools to complete tasks such as clearing brush, cleaning culverts, and repairing barriers Maintenance Work: Perform minor repairs, field adjustments, and preventative care on assigned equipment Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and help maintain a safe work environment for all Interested in learning more. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Dual shifts, overtime, and travel may be required. Work hours subject to change seasonally. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program; or Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual (E) Restriction removed. This position requires the ability to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.

This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period. This position requires an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period Additional Requirements: This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Employee may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment You must be able to perform essential job functions.
