Fixed Operation Director information

What is a fixed operation director?

Fixed Operation Directors are senior managers in automotive dealerships responsible for overseeing the service, parts, and sometimes body shop departments. Their primary role is to ensure these departments run smoothly, efficiently, and profitably. This includes managing staff, setting budgets, improving customer satisfaction, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. They play a crucial part in dealership success, as fixed operations often provide a steady source of revenue beyond vehicle sales.

How does a fixed operation director typically collaborate with other departments to improve service efficiency and customer satisfaction?

A Fixed Operation Director often works closely with the sales, parts, and finance departments to streamline processes and ensure a seamless customer experience. They coordinate with service advisors and technicians to balance workflow, reduce bottlenecks, and implement best practices that improve turnaround times. Regular meetings with department heads help align goals, address challenges, and create strategies for upselling services and retaining customers. This cross-department collaboration is key to driving dealership profitability and maintaining high service standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fixed operation director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fixed Operation Director, you need comprehensive knowledge of automotive service operations, inventory management, and business analytics, typically supported by several years of industry experience and sometimes a relevant degree. Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS), customer relationship management (CRM) software, and manufacturer certification programs is often required. Exceptional leadership, organizational, and customer service skills help in managing teams and delivering a superior client experience. These competencies are vital for optimizing service profitability, enhancing operational efficiency, and maintaining high customer satisfaction in a competitive automotive environment.

What is the difference between Fixed Operation Director vs Service Manager?

The Fixed Operation Director has a broader scope, overseeing multiple departments at a strategic level, while the Service Manager focuses on daily service department management. Both roles are essential for dealership success but differ in scope and responsibilities.

Job description

Ready to Break Free from the Grind of the Dealership World?

You’ve built a top-performing service department.

You know how to drive NPS/CSI, profitability and building a team.
But now you’re asking… “What’s next?”

If you’ve ever dreamed of taking your talent nationwide—helping other service managers and advisors reach the heights you’ve already achieved—this is your shot!

We’re Chris Collins Inc., the force behind the Service Drive Revolution, and we’re looking for elite service professionals to join our team of traveling performance coaches.

What You'll Do

As a Commercial Truck Fixed Operations Coach, you’ll partner with owners, general managers, parts and service leadership, and front-line staff to:

  • Audit operations and identify profit leaks

  • Train advisors in real-world selling strategies

  • Coach managers in leadership, accountability, KPI mastery, and execution

  • Help teams transform not just numbers—but culture

You’ll be on-site with dealerships across the US and Canada, delivering hands-on coaching and tactical implementation. It’s not consulting from a PowerPoint—it’s in-the-trenches transformationNote: There is a component of coaching that is a virtual coaching plus you’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with dealerships in person.

This Role Is Not for Everyone.

Before you apply, understand this:

You will travel— up to 3 weeks per month

You must thrive in unfamiliar environments

You must be a self-starter who can command a room, earn trust, and drive change fast

You cannot rely on theory—you must bring real-world, documented service management success

No prior coaching experience needed—just a strong track record and a willingness to coach

You Might Be a Fit If You Have:
  • 5+ years of being a high-performing Service Manager or Fixed Ops Director in heavy/commercial truck and car operations.
  • A proven track record driving customer satisfaction (NPS/CSI), profitability, and developing high-functioning teams.
  • A self-starter who thrives in varied dealership environments—adept at earning trust and commanding attention.
  • Passionate about teaching and mentoring: you’ve mastered the real-world systems under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable leading training sessions and working with all personalities.
  • Available and eager for frequent travel (up to 3 weeks per month U.S. & Canada).
  • Bonus if you have public speaking or training experience, multi-rooftop leadership, and a hands-on mindset for fixing broken processes.
Why Join Our Team & Thrive With Us?

We’re not just building better parts & service departments—we’re building a movement.

Our coaches enjoy:

  • Partnering with a respected leader in automotive coaching and fixed ops growth

  • Receive training in our proprietary service systems and tools

  • Collaborate with a team of high performers who value autonomy, integrity, and results

  • Make a tangible difference in the lives of customers and fixed operation professionals, and drive profitability of dealerships

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Public speaking or training experience

  • Experience managing multiple locations or large-volume stores

  • A “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude with a passion for fixing broken processes

Ready to Make a Bigger Impact?

If you’re tired of the grind and ready to coach the next generation of parts and service leaders, apply today. Be part of something bigger—the Service Drive Revolution.
