About the team and position
We're looking for a high-energy Senior Accountant to join a rapidly growing company. Under the direction of the Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for handling various aspects of Carvana's income taxes providing accurate, timely preparation and reporting of key financial schedules and key financial statements. This position is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the company's income tax and other regulatory compliance.
What you'll be doing
  • Prepare/review federal and state income tax returns including detail support and calculations for Partnership and Corporate return compliance including multistate apportionment.
  • Prepare income tax extensions and estimated tax payment calculations.
  • Assist with preparation of income tax provision under ASC 740 and related work papers.
  • Prepare month-end journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with taxable income projections and forecasts.
  • Assist with Unclaimed Property reporting and compliance process.
  • Manage and review tax fixed assets schedules and depreciation calculations.
  • Conduct tax research on federal and state tax issues and prepare written documentation.
  • Assist the tax department with written documentation of tax policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with internal business units including Treasury, Legal, Accounting, and other corporate functions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather financial data and support tax audits or notices.
  • Other work-related tasks/ad-hoc reporting as needed.

What you should know/have
  • 2-5 years tax accounting experience with private industry and/or public accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Experience with tax research tools RIA Checkpoint, BNA and/or CCH.
  • Strong understanding of Tax and GAAP accounting principles.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly in Excel.
  • Detail-oriented with strong ability to gather, organize and solve problems using data.

It would be great if you also had
  • CPA or CPA candidate is preferred.
  • Master's degree in Accounting or Tax is preferred.
  • Partnership and or Corporation tax experience is preferred.
  • GAAP is preferred.
  • Experience with Alteryx is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion and/or Oracle tax fixed assets, preferred.
