Job description

Morgan Stanley Investment Management ("MSIM"), together with its investment advisory affiliates, operates in 26 countries with $1.9 trillion in assets under management or supervision as of March 31, 2026. MSIM strives to provide outstanding long-term investment performance, exceptional client service and a comprehensive suite of investment management solutions to a diverse global client base, including governments, institutions, corporations and individuals.

The Mortgage & Securitized Team manages over $45 billion in assets, including more than $24 billion in dedicated securitized strategies, as of March 31, 2026. The team invests across the broad spectrum of global securitized assets, including agency and non-agency residential mortgage-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, asset-backed securities, and other structured credit sectors. The team's investment strategies span retail funds, institutional separately managed accounts and other pooled investment vehicles, and apply an actively managed, fundamentally driven investment approach.

The Fixed Income Institutional Portfolio Manager / Senior Product Specialist will join the Mortgage & Securitized Team and serve as a key client-facing representative of the investment team. This individual will act as a liaison between the portfolio management team and institutional clients, consultants, prospects, distribution partners and other key stakeholders. While this role will not have direct portfolio management responsibility, the individual will be expected to develop a deep understanding of the team's investment philosophy, process, portfolio positioning, performance drivers and market views.

The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert on the team's securitized fixed income strategies and will represent the team in client meetings, due diligence sessions, consultant reviews, prospect presentations and internal distribution discussions. The role will require extensive travel and close coordination with portfolio managers, research analysts, distribution, marketing, legal, compliance, risk and operations teams. The primary objectives of the role are to support client engagement, deepen relationships, enhance transparency around the team's investment strategies, and contribute to both asset retention and growth across the platform globally.

Responsibilities
Travel extensively to meet with existing and prospective institutional and intermediary clients, consultants, financial advisors and distribution partners.
Represent the Mortgage & Securitized Team in client meetings, portfolio reviews, due diligence meetings, finals presentations and consultant discussions.
Communicate the team's market views, economic outlook, investment philosophy, portfolio positioning, performance drivers, risk exposures and current portfolio activity across securitized fixed income strategies.
Translate complex securitized markets and portfolio concepts into clear, compelling and client-appropriate messaging for sophisticated audiences.
Partner closely with portfolio managers and research analysts to remain current on market developments, investment themes, portfolio changes and relative value views across securitized sectors.
Prepare and deliver written and verbal client portfolio reviews, market outlooks, strategy updates, performance commentary and responses to ad hoc client and consultant inquiries.
Support the senior institutional portfolio manager and broader investment team as a primary liaison to MSIM Distribution, Marketing, Legal, Risk, Compliance and Operations teams.
Help ensure effective onboarding, servicing, retention and growth of client assets across institutional separate accounts, pooled vehicles, retail funds and other investment solutions.
Contribute to the development and refinement of strategy messaging, marketing materials, pitch books, white papers, client presentations and thought leadership.
Perform competitor analysis, peer comparisons, market research and product positioning work to support distribution and client engagement efforts.
Manage, maintain and enhance data and investment-related information required for RFPs, RFIs, consultant databases and client due diligence requests.
Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance of external messaging related to the team's investment strategies.

Requirements
Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in asset management, fixed income, investment research, product strategy, institutional portfolio specialist, client portfolio management or investment marketing.
Strong knowledge of fixed income markets, with meaningful experience in securitized products strongly preferred.
Ability to discuss securitized investment strategies, portfolio construction, risk positioning, performance attribution and market themes with sophisticated institutional audiences.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present effectively in both small-group and large-audience settings.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex investment concepts clearly and persuasively to clients, consultants, prospects and internal partners.
High degree of intellectual curiosity, analytical ability and investment acumen.
Knowledge of portfolio attribution, risk metrics, benchmark analysis and performance evaluation.
Strong research capabilities and resourcefulness in responding to client, consultant and internal stakeholder requests.
Self-starter with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build consensus across investment, distribution and control functions.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct and eVestment experience preferred.
Bachelor's degree required.
CFA designation or progress toward CFA strongly preferred.
FINRA Series 7 and Series 65/66 preferred.
