Job Summary

The Service Desk Associate – Security Specialist is a hands-on technical role focused on protecting and strengthening the security of employee workstations, applications, and user-level technology.

This position sits within the Service Desk and is designed as an entry-to-mid level role for individuals who want to build a career in cybersecurity and infrastructure. It provides practical, real-world experience with endpoint security, Microsoft security tooling, automation, and incident response fundamentals - serving as a natural stepping stone to more advanced roles, including System Administrator – Security Specialist.

Duties and Responsibilities Endpoint & User Security (60%)
  • Manage and improve desktop and application patching using Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune) and Defender for Endpoint.
  • Monitor and administer endpoint protection controls, including antivirus, device compliance, and security baselines.
  • Support email and browser security using Microsoft Defender for Office 365, Netskope, and other tools.
  • Maintain accurate endpoint and application inventory, ensuring visibility and compliance across devices.
  • Assist with endpoint-level security incidents, including investigation, containment, and remediation, in coordination with Infrastructure and Security teams.
  • Apply and maintain secure configuration standards for desktops and user applications.
  • Support employee cybersecurity awareness initiatives, including phishing simulations and user education.
  • Use scripting and automation (PowerShell preferred) to improve security consistency and reduce manual effort.
Service Desk & Operational Support (40%)
  • Support Service Desk operations during peak periods, vacations, staffing gaps, and as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve end-user issues with a security-first mindset.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Service Desk workflows, processes, and documentation.
  • Create and maintain knowledge base articles, how-to-guides, and support documentation.
  • Collaborate with teammates to deliver a high-quality, professional end-user support experience.
Collaboration, Exposure & Growth
  • Participate in endpoint, EUC, and security-related IT projects.
  • Work closely with other IT teams to align endpoint security with enterprise standards.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal partners for troubleshooting and support.
  • Participate in Service Desk shift or on-call rotations as required.
  • Gain exposure to enterprise security tools, frameworks, and operational practices that support career progression into senior infrastructure and security roles.

  • Familiarity with endpoint security concepts, patching, configuration management, and device compliance.
  • Experience working with a service management platform (e.g., Freshservice or similar).
  • Strong documentation, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in security, automation, and career growth beyond traditional Service Desk work.
  • Working knowledge of security frameworks such as CIS and NIST (preferred)
  • Scripting experience (PowerShell preferred)
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+. (preferred)
