As a Port Captain with American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL), you will play a critical leadership role in overseeing vessel operations, developing high-performing crews, and ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory standards. What you will be doing... Your IMPACT 

  • Supervise the daily vessel activities and ensure appropriate training for all wheelhouse Team Members.
  • Facilitate the implementation of programs, best practices, policies for all boats to achieve an injury free work place.
  • Ensure compliance with company policy and government regulations.
  • Responsible for Team Member issues regarding hiring/discharging, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Provide positive leadership consistent with ACBL’s operating priorities.
  • Audit to ensure regulatory compliance, provide feedback, and examine industry best practices on compliance issues.
  • Audit vessels to ensure ACBL standards are in place to achieve continuous improvement metrics and goals.
  • Assist with establishing departmental goals.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for...  

You will need to have: 

  • 5-8 Years of vessel leadership within the barge transportation industry.
  • A license to operate towing vessels.
  • A valid TWIC or ability to obtain the credential.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Competence managing from a remote location.
  • Strong knowledge of barging operations and river systems 

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Working knowledge of government regulations.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office software.
